Audemars Piguet ROO Black themes
Hi guys, I was talking to my AD yesterday and he mentioned that he just got this watch in (Pictures from the net).
I have been eyeing a Diver but something is growing on me with this one. Opinions and comments are welcome. Also, is it true that the ROO "themes line" is being discontinued? Thanks for your time. |

It's classic, my best friend bought one last year. I prefer it to the Diver which I already have.

Love the black themes, you can't go wrong with this or the Diver, both are great.

This is an understated beauty. I prefer the Blue Theme more, but the black can be very versatile. This classic never go out of style IMHO.

For a ROO that one flies a bit far under the radar IMO. The Offshore line is known to offer a good deal of sporty spunk for the wrist. The dial on this model lacks that for me. Perhaps a RO would be more fitting for you?

I like it a lot. I like the panda too, but this is the one that got my money in the end. and strangely enough does fly under the radar. Get more attention with my sea dweller than a watch that is 5x as expensive.

Ok, quick update.
I was able to go and meet my AD and he showed me the ROO Black themes and also he had the Diver available. Inspecting both I came to the following conclusions: ROO Black themes: For some reason, the black leather hornback is not that sharp, its a washed out black, not very elegant on nice IMHO. Comparing it to other horn back straps it does not even holds a candle. The strap is very confortable and I love the AP clasp. Now, the face of the watch looks a bit outdated/cluttered and again, the dial kinda looks plain washed out black as well. A bit too plain in my opinion and very different from the pics that I posted from the web. As someone mentioned (I am a bit on the conservative side) if deciding to go with a ROO I would expect It has a bit of a eye candy (Safari, Panda, Navy or blue themes). Oh, and while we are mentioning ROO, I love the reference that you have Wayne. I have tried to track those pre owned but they are E reference. Reading the sticky section "buying a pre owned AP" with reference before F series is a gamble and you should at least know the seller or have a very precise service history. DIVER: On the other hand, the diver is stunning. It really sparkles and the black dial is creamy rich black. The Luminescent markers are a plus and the dial looks cleaner dial IMHO. The rubber strap is really confortable and nobody does rubber like AP. I was wearing a suit and although not a fan I can pull it off. I even suggested to my AD that a steel strap could be a good idea but in his mind (And I agree) the Diver is at home sitting on the rubber strap. The contrast of black dial, steel bezel and black strap makes it pop like it should. With the steel strap (so that I can feel confortable when wearing a suit and going to meetings/clients etc) it looses ist charm in his humble opinion. So, there you have it folks. I still undecided but my heart is calling for the diver. Thank you for all the post and lets keep debating this. My too cents. God Bless and again thank you for the input. |

You sound kinda "decided" to me (ton of cons for the Themes; none for the Diver); still, take your time.
Oh, and I disagree 100% about the bracelet; as much as I love the OEM rubber strap (it's true, no one does rubber like AP), the bracelet cranks the Diver up to "11". Regards, Adam |
