i love my new gmt but i have to admit i am some aggravated with my first experience with rolex.
Nice story, I think you should call that sales lady once in awhile and show her how serious you are about the Daytona. I wish a AD here would give me one at list. I have the GMTc and had the white Daytona..they really complement each other well.

i will apologize now for taking this thread off topic with this daytona talk and i should have made it clear in my earlier post that i am not soured on rolex with my experience. rolex is my favorite brand of watch. it's just that i am not the kind of guy that is going to spend several thousand dollars on jewelry to be allowed to buy a ss watch for full retail when that watch has an approximate mark up of about 50%.

i want a chrono and i am a rolex guy. i have been involved in the automotive and aviation industries all my life so i have a connection with these type of watches. it was one of the major reasons i bought a gmt, rolex developed it for pan am pilots. i wanted a rolex daytona for the strong auto racing ties. the problem is i am going to wear it. it will not be a trailer queen that i show a wrist shot every now and again. under those circumstances it would be foolish to pay over retail for one. i am not wanting one for a investment.

i will not contact this ad about it again. i put the ball in their court when i told the sales lady she knew what i wanted when she called me about the lv sub.

when the rolex rep heard her say they were reserved for their good customers he got very angry with her and told her, don't say that to him! you just told him he wasn't a good customer! he couldn't believe she said that to me. he was right, she should have never said that to me. she was very embarrassed and told him it was corporate policy. i pretty much made up my mind right there that was my last retail purchase. i would still pay retail for a daytona but that is it. everything else i buy will be at a discount or i won't buy it. that isn't a problem for a breitling ad and they have wonderful aviation inspired chronographs.

i just thought the whole thing was very unfortunate.

for those that are looking for a GMT IIc, there are tons in the San Francisco bay area......waiting to be had, might not be in the dealer case, but just ask.

If it's not for investment, then it would seem reasonable to pay whatever the current market price asks.

well, this has nothing to do with anything, but, i want a green glass milgauss, but i don't see many of them, and they appear to be selling at least $2K over MSRP. not so anymore for the GMTII-C, but it's still a very much sought-after watch
best,
dan
