Sorry to hear about this.

I just come back from living in hotels for a month and left my Explorer II on only one occasion in the safe (dont trust em to be honest but took the risk as a one off).

Interested to hear how helpful the hotel was, im sure a Marriot must have CCTV in corridors etc

Good luck

years ago my surfing equipment got stolen in Hawaii when it was in the Hotel's storage area. Sign said to store at your own risk. However, after raising a big stink, the Hotel's Insurance Co. compensated my loss.... did you check with management?

Info. sent out on the coconut wireless this morning. Have friends that work at the Marriot so hopefully they will hear something from the inside. Any gouges, scratches, markings to help me with the identity would be most helpful!

Hmm lived here now for almost 30 years. Not sure where these pawnshops are you goggled. 5 of the 8 are addresses on Oahu. The others never seen before. Now I do know of a thrift shop on Rice street. It is more of a salvation army type store rather than a store that would carry anything worth say more than $100.00. Kauai is a very small island the only real high end spots would be in the Hyatt's and St. Regis. We have a Kay's and a Zale's jewelers that is about it.

Just got an email as I am writing this response from a Marriot employee the word has been spread in there office to be on the look out for this watch.

I hope we can get this watch back to the rightful owner.

Aloha from Kauai.

Tom

Tom,
Thanks for all the efforts and I know my friend will be contacting you directly.
I bough this watch brand new from my local AD 8/03 and sold it to my friend's wife for his father's day gift 6/04.
If memory serves me it is a no holes case with SEL. He may have had it serviced once but I'll bet the green sticker is still on the case back.
Nothing would make me happier than to see this family get the watch back, the bad guys behind bars and you with a life time's worth of gratitude and the $3k reward check.
Best,
Mike

Just wondering when this occurred? As others have asked did he report it to the hotel? From toms post from the islands it doesn't seem so as the hotel employees didn't seem aware of it. Was this reported to the police?

And how did it go missing from the hotel room? Answers to these questions would benefit those who travel with watches.

This incident occurred on May 8, 2013. The hotel was notified and we were simply told that they'd make a note of it. We think housekeeping nabbed it as there were no signs of forced entry and nothing else was taken. The police were contacted and we are in the process of filing a report. We've put a lost and found ad on Craigslist of Hawaii.

A BIG thank you to everyone that has read this and that has posted. This forum is probably the best chance of getting my husband's GMT back!

I would get the highest ranked person in that hotel and make his life very miserable until he takes serious action to get the watch back.

I definitely won't accept that they are only 'making a note'.

Now that 1 week has gone, you should call Mariott HQ and make some waves....

Welcome to the forum and sorry it took something like this to get you to join our usually merry group.
Don't give up hope and know there are a lot of good guys (and gals) on the look out for Ken's watch.

Man this is a sorry loss indeed. I still hope that you find it.

IMO, I travel with 1 watch only and it never leaves my wrist, sleeping, showering and other activities. The likelihood of it being stolen off my wrist will be lower than leaving it all any hotel safe.

Sorry to hear! Best of luck in your search. I truly hope we have a happy ending to this story! I hope the person who took it is dammed for the rest of their lives! (I'm not biter!)

Just wanted to update you all on the missing GMT...It has not been recovered but Marriott has been in communication with me to complete their incident reports. No cameras in the corridors and no word on if any employees have been interviewed. Will continue to push Marriott and the Kauai police.

Marriott claims no responsibility because it was not in the safe. I claim they do have responsibility since their employees were the only other people with access to the room. I think I know who will win that argument, though.

I also mentioned and, will continue to remind them, that I have posted about the theft on this forum. Marriott needs to know that this negative publicity has real potential to cost them far more than the value of the watch.

Thanks for keeping your eye out for this watch and for reading the post!

It was left on a dresser. In our rush to get to a dinner cruise we forgot it.
