Ranking of some major watch brands
Hi folks,
You can see what the major watch brands are and how they rank compared to one another. You can see what categories Rolex and Tudor occupy. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/rank...ed-755635.html |

That link is to one questionable list compiled by I don't know who?
Sort of meaningless IMHO

As far as alphabetical-ness, well each cluster is alphabetically arranged and I think that all members of a given cluster carry the same weight. |

Have to agree and afraid today high prices don't always mean one product is better that others. But today some like to boast about how much its costs etc and many just wear a brand because simply its expensive in this so called designer world some live in today..

I do believe his prices are out of range but I think the idea is that on the average, if one cluster of watches is above another, then all the watches in that above cluster, will on the average, cost more than all the watches on the average in the cluster below.
Each cluster is a hierarchy of brands. Doesn't mean they are better or more in demand or anything like that .... it is just that these clusters are arranged as groups, with decreasing prices as one travels downwards. |

I agree in regard to the pricing, I own a Parmigiani Hebdomadaire and I can say after much research on the brand that Michael Parmigiani is one of the top 5 watchmakers in the world at the moment. He has done a fair bit of restoration work for Breguet among others. A lot of the top brands shown tend to do a made for order type watch that never goes on public sale, or very limited addition watches.
I will say I feel a bit insulted the Graham watches are classed with Rolex, given the watches they make today have no connection to the original brand and their movements are basic ETA. They, in my opinion are very over-priced. |

For some reason, some folks are always ready to try and "list" or categorize personal preferences...
That, and the magazines that always come out with lists of some sort every year to get you to buy their latest edition.... Almost all of such attempts are pretty meaningless and have little actual research to back them up.. It really comes down to what you want to wear on your wrist, not what a marketing firm tells you that you should be wearing..

Yeah, lists like this don't carry much weight with me. I really don't like Patek, ALS, or AP. I don't rate them very high because, well, I don't like anything they make. Some people around here get all weepy over these brands so my opinion to them would be blasphemous. Opinions are just that, opinions.

Hmm surprised at the watches they picked to go in each level ... They should have a separate category titled ROLEX at the top

I really don't see any value in that list.
Placing Hublot in a category above Rolex and others reflects the prices they charge for their watches, but does not reflect their value. Hublot represents a triumph of vacuity over horology. Rolex represents design, robustness and beauty. Then again, they wouldn't make them if people didn't buy them! |

I have my own list. What others think has no effect on my preferences.

Such lists are for people whose choices are dictated by others.

TC, as mentioned in that post...they are listed by price and they specifically state that the list does not count for horology...basically negating the list altogether. Not sure what they were going for by even listing this...

Agree that this a single person's or small group of people's layman list, not an informed or a discerning experts list.

And as I said in my earlier posts they don't even have the prices right! Patek and Lange between $15-40K doesn't get you close to their best pieces! Again a meaningless list as I stated.

Have to agree Dan and that's from experience and not what some write on the net and expect they got paid to write it.
