This is the key point. I think nearly every wife will get to the point that she thinks "what the hell does he need another watch for?" I found the first 5 to be easy to justify. When you start to get into double digits, it's a bit different.

I am wondering, how do you guys deal with this issues without sleeping on the sofa for a week after every new purchase??
OH FOR GODS SAKE MAN ...MAN UP!

Flowers of course! :)

Tell her you want to buy a motorcycle or take up base jumping.

Pretty soon, she'll be begging you to buy a watch instead.

Whenever I want to buy a sports car, I tell her that I'll planning on signing up for motorcycle lessons or take up piloting.

Works like a charm. Lol

Seriously this time...I gave her my YG Yachtmaster...she loves it and wears it 24/7.

Have been a little 'economical with the truth' occasionally about how much I spent however.

I sold an AR15 and told her I was buying a Daytona. LoL There are also accounts called MDK (Mamma Don't Know) that can always cut purchases prices in 1/2 or into trades.

I bought her a ROLEX of her very own. She loves it. Has worn it daily for over four years since the AD fitted the bracelet for her. She 'understands' now...

Excellent point made here.
i'm hoping mine follows this example: her new 36mm DJ is on the way.
Should make my life easier when adding more Rolexes.
This entire discussion gives RF another great reason to exist.
So glad to see different points of view.

Always easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission. I usually buy first, explain later.

Haha I love this topic. I don't own a Rolex yet. BUT, I will say - I recently bought my first Automatic Diver - a Seiko.... And.... She can't keep it off HER wrist!!!

A surprisingly good start to bigger things!

Start small, get her hooked too.

That's great...I have to try that one! "Prices are going up 8% next week, there is a two year wait list, and this thing will be worth more than I paid by the time I get home."

Give a little, get a little.
Or give a lot, get a lot.
Gotta keep it balanced.

I have told her that some are "fakes" I have even shown her the website with the watch I own is on for $250.00. I tell her I need so many and buy the REAL one's that I really want and the fake one's for the one's I just like. Also, I combine this with "getting a really good deal" on the real one's.

I tell her that my purchases is part of a broader financial strategy called "asset conversion". I convert my cash into precious metals and collectibles.

I don't know about KY, but in my old (community property) state of CA... that's a very expensive strategy.

At one point my wife had more Rolexes than I did (that was only two, to my one). She also has a Cartier Pasha. She knows a beautiful watch, and she understands why I love them...although she does laugh at me for it sometimes.

Not too long ago, I told her that I wanted to buy a new Omega, and she actually told me to get a Rolex instead, because they hold their value better. Marriage isn't always perfect, but when she says something like that you gotta love her!

But I think it really comes down to what cop414 said - don't let somebody tell you how to spend your hard-earned money, and don't tell them how to spend theirs.

Sitting in my lawyers office as I type this after a year and a half we are hopefully a month away from finalization. Trade up and the money can be recouped.

Before I bought my new Tudor, I bought my wife a Tudor of her own.

I'd rather have her be an advocate for my hobby than an adversary. By including her in something I enjoy, she has begun to enjoy it, too. She now often asks me about Submariners, Daytonas, and other watches she otherwise would have never cared about.

It's a lot easier to enjoy something when you don't feel like you have to justify, hide or make excuses for it.

Remember Frank, Dean, & Sammy, saying, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

Momma's got more ice than I got watches.
