Is this AP real?

Hello everyone,

I'm I'm NYC for a couple days so I stopped by a few ADs and other shops in my spare time. I was in a pawn shop and I asked if they had any APs. The owner opened his safe and showed me this watch. Said he thought it was $23k new and would offer it to me at $8k. I know that's a too-good-to-be-true price, but I figured I'd post the pics up here to see if any of you can take a guess as to whether or not it's real. If it is real, I'm tempted to buy it (although I wouldn't do so without taking it to an AD first). For the record, it has a box but no papers.

Thanks everyone! Sorry for the low quality iPhone pics...I didn't have another camera on me. Any info would be fantastic.

I know absolutely nothing about AP's, but the dial looks really cheap...cheaper than my G-Shock.

Hello,
Some pawnbrokers use Watch Certification Services of America (Watch CSA) to verify if a watch is stolen, counterfeit/fake, or original; printed certificate or report is available...imho should be included with their watches.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

The pushers... look too flat and aren't right and the P00561 series look like a commonly repped series for this particular model

Thanks for the info everyone! Please keep these responses coming, especially if you know APs well. Definitely sounds too good to be true, which is a shame, but expected.

Without knowing too much about AP, my first instinct was to say it's not legit. From my experiences with other brands, when I get that feeling it is usually accurate.

Not an AP expert, but I suggest you Google the AP Tour Auto in question for an examination of a genuine one. There were limited edition models produced (usually 100 to 150, depending on the year) and the serial number visible on this one says 60 / 60. Also, I notice the genuine leather straps have a red /orange piping while some have white piping depending on the year issued. A side by side examination IMO will prove this a fake. Besides, this is a $35,000 and anyone trying to peddle one for $8,000 without boxes or papers is highly suspicious. Used AP's, especially limited additions, do depreciate but not more than 75%!

IMO, Don't touch it!!

It looks ok to me I have to say, and I own the Gentleman Driver which is the latest version of this watch so I have scrutinised it closely. There were two versions I believe of the Tour Auto 2010 model, 40 of one (26364 model, also called the National Classic Tour 2010), and 60 of the other (26363 model, Tour Auto 2010).

At 8k, it's well worth persuading the shop to let you check it! AP will re-issue papers for a small fee too.

I'm thinking about calling him tomorrow and seeing if he'll let me check it out. Lets say it costs $200 to get looked at by AP (I'm just making this number up), I'll make a deal that he pays that and if the watch checks out as authentic I'll fine him $8300 for it. Like I said be hire, I'm very suspicious, but on the off chance this watch is legit, I would love to take advantage of this deal.

Pretty sure it's a fake in those pics, Subdials fonts looks weird, Pushers a bit to flat.

But if it would be the real McCoy your getting it for a steel.

Difficult to tell from the photos whether the colouring of the numbers on the 6 o'clock dial is suspicious.

I took a 2nd look. On the dial, the AP logo appears to touch the words "Audemars Piguet"

Don't waste your time on this one.

The date wheel, looks as it's pretty far up... Not recessed? Shouldn't it be on this model?

Looks cheap.

It's fake. 240 on the tachymeter is upside down.

The 85 to the 220 should be upside down / back to front to allow a continuous reading. However, I am not sure if it goes to the 240 as well so you should thoroughly check the watch via independent expert

The 240 is inverted on my Gentleman Driver, so kilyung is spot on I am afraid as official photos of the 2010 model show the same for the 240 marking!

Thanks man for the good spot! There's all the proof I need that this is a POS fake. I really appreciate it.

What I was intimating, it should switch at the 220 - 240 marker not the 240 - 280 marker

Alone the screws that hold the bezel from the bottom ( 3 of them have been already butchered...) look nothing like something you'd expect from AP

Wow, knowing the 240 was going the wrong way is some serious knowledge because it goes that same way in some of the pics of other current RO chronos on their own website.

This one was waayyy above my pay grade. I'm impressed! Name: bow-downsmiley.gif
