Any fans of The Waltons ??
Just saw this article that "The Waltons actor Joe Conley dies at 85" aka ike godsey
One of my favourite tv programs growing up http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23252525 US actor Joe Conley, best known for his role as shopkeeper Ike Godsey in long-running TV series The Waltons, has died aged 85. His wife, Louise, said he died at a care home in Newbury Park, California, on 7 July. Conley, who starred in The Waltons for more than 10 years, had been suffering from dementia. He landed the role of the Jefferson County general store owner when the series started in 1972. |

Years ago, in the 70's, I worked in a neighborhood grocery store while in college where Earl Hamner was a regular customer as he lived in the area.
Mr. Hamner, creator of the Waltons, wrote the novel Spencers Mountain inspired by his childhood in Virginia, which was the basis of the TV series. Earl also did the voice over narration on the show. Very nice man, always friendly to us.

I always have enjoyed the show and watched from the beginnings back in the early 70's...just a good family, warm your heart and head, type of stories.....
I would imagine that as you have stated some of the older actors/actresses on the show would be of an age to start passing away...RIP to 'Ike'.....

I grew up watching this show. I used to watch it with my grandmother, because she said it reminded her of how things were when she was a child. She had to work very hard as a little girl--maybe that's why she is still with us at 90 yrs. of age. A great show: no fluff; nothing contrived; delivered a subtle message of hard work makes the person, nothing more. Loved it.

I didn't watch it much when it was on in the 70's as I mostly worked at night. Now when it's on in the mornings, I tune in. Considering the current state of TV with all the horse$hit reality shows, it’s nice to see something that shows wonderful family values. As I get older, I appreciate it more.
