Salesperson went from $12k down to $9k in the blink of an eye and I'm sure the customer could have haggled even lower. I get the feeling that they make about 90% of their current income from T-shirts, bobbleheads, coffee mugs, etc.
You're quite right. While Gold and Silver used to be a real pawn shop, that show has made it anything but. Now it's a tourist attraction. They make the majority of their money from filming episodes of the show, and selling overpriced bobbleheads, shot glasses, t shirts and coffee cups. Once in awhile they will get the idiotic tourist that will actually buy something from them (and pay 150-200% of what it's really worth I might add) just so they can say they actually bought something from "the Pawn Stars shop".

I went in there a year or so ago. It was highly overpriced, very crowded, and they threw everyone out because they were about to film a scene for an upcoming episode. In case anyone didn't already know, everything you see on the show is fake. Their "experts" and customers are paid actors, all the scenes are scripted and staged, the outcome of the "haggling" is already decided before they even start filming, and the items that are being sold are usually props on loan from local Las Vegas museums and other businesses.

"Pennies on the dollar..."

Reminds me of the scene in "Leaving Las Vegas" where Cage sells his gold Daytona for I think $500 bucks and seems happy with the deal. "I'll do it!" he says, if memory serves.

Of course, he's drunk.

I've seen the son wear AP ROO Rubbler Clad... was watching Hardcore Pawn Chicago the other day and noticed the owner has a YM2 White Gold.

Rick used to wear a Breitling.
Sean, the previous gun expert wore a 2 tone sub.

I've been to the store and they have a really nice selection there.
Same on the Kardshians, long gone are the Breitlings, FMs and Cartiers and now they all have only gold Daytonas, DD2s, no DDs even for the women, and AP and Pateks.

Those snakes buy/steal them from desperate people who have hit hard times and need the cash!

Sure they seem to have a different Rolex on each episode...they just reach in the case and put one on.

I heard Rick makes $50K per episode! The rest are probably not that far behind! Good money for nicer watches!

ChumLee has a few nice cars as well, I bet they do pretty well from the show - 50k wouldn't surprise me at all.... And now there's a bunch of 'spinoffs' focused on their 'experts' - Counting Cars, American Restoration, etc... I wouldn't be surprised if they got producer credit on those as well...

The same goes for the "tools" from Hardcore Pawn, the geek son, and b....tch daughter, both wear Rolex as well, and others, but Rolex seems to dominate. Les Gold, the dad seems to wear a Roger Dubois maybe??
Has anybody watch this show? Is Detroit really that bad??
Cheers!!

One of my favorite TV shows. I am reading this to my wife who is cracking up out loud as I too always point out the watches. She said she can't believe we are having a discussion of Pawn Stars on TRF. She has neither been bitten by the bug, even though last year I bought her a ladies TT DJ which she adores and wears daily.

I'm from the Detroit suburbs. This show is totally staged and people are not that stupid or rude and the daughter is not a B!tch like she plays on the show.I am sure the City of Detroit, like all other cities has there fair share of ignorant people but the ones depicted on the show are ridiculous. Again, my wife can't stand this show and won't even let me have it on the TV. She tolerates me watching the Pawn Stars marathons....

This is a reputable, well-regulated pawnshop in Vegas. People patronize it at their will, on the basis of their own life choices. In fact, in watching the show I'm often surprised at their low margin, if you can believe what they say they'll get in profit.

I love this show.
