Hello, and I've got a question?
Hello everyone, new to the site. Bought my first and only Rolex in St. Martin 2002 a nice Black GMT 11 SS..... Love it wear it almost every day, well I was in a Rolex store and spied for the first time the new GMT 11 SS Black ceramic Bezel. I really like it, although can't afford both. Should I sell the old for the new? ...... And, this is really the kicker cause I don't know. How rare was it of me to stumble on the new one in the shop just waiting for me to buy? Cause if its really rare I'll go back tomorrow and do the deal. I live just outside the city of NY. Cheers everyone

No, not too hard to come by these days. Try to buy at a discount.

I'd save to buy a second one. I don't think I'll ever flip a Rolex.

Welcome to TRF!
Your experience seeing the SS GMT IIc at an AD was "semi-rare". The SS GMT IIc are becoming increasingly easy to get. I, too, would suggest that you save for it and keep your old GMT II.

If you've had your GMT since 2002 and wear it most all the time, then if you got a new GMT IIc, I believe you would wear that one..
You sound like a one watch kind of guy.....sell the old one, you can get a good price to offset that of the new.. You might even get a good deal on a trade in....

Your GMT has many more options than the new GMT IIc. 120 click bezel, replaceable inserts, and bracelet options. It wears better with longsleeves because of it's lower profile and more comfortable because of the lighter weight. The new bracelet, excluding the polished center links, is a marked improvement though.

I would hold onto the watch and save up for the new one. I think my opinion is similar to others who have already posted, but I would hold onto a rolex model that has been discontinued.
the GMT-IIc should become increasingly easier to find. No hurry on the new one. |

I agree with the others. Keep the GMT you have and save for the newer one. The one you have is sweet.

Im silly.......
Well everyone thank you for your inputs.... I hemmed and hawed, called the store and it was sold already the next day.... That made me want it more. I went to a local "AD" shop and talked it out, they said they would match the price and deal within 2-3 weeks it will be mine. I'll tell you that my original GMT has some sentimental value, but I feel I'm just adding new memories and another step in TIME. This is a great site and look forward to showing you all my new GMT. This will soon be my past watch along with a past Airline I flew for.... lets see if I know how to post this PIC...comments always welcome... JOHN

P.S. it is a sweet watch, But with the new watch will come new memories and by switching (not so much upgrading) it will help in my time divide of those memories.....

From a person that many year ago flipped my late Dads Eterna and regretting it to this day. Think carefully if it has some sentimental value.
I think Rolex were mad discontinuing the GMT Master 11. Its iconic.

I would keep your current watch. Make sure you try on the new GMT IIc before buying it. It is a cosmetic departure to some extent from the previous GMT.
