Submariner Owners: Why choose Sub over Sub-Date?

To all Submariner owners - What are your reasons for choosing your Sub over a Sub-Date?

I simply thought it looked nicer than the date version..

My first Sub was given to me as a gift. I like the date feature though and the cyclops is iconic. I must admit that the no date is beautiful as well. Perhaps I'll purchase one someday.

It seems every Sub I see is a Sub Date. I like the clean lines of the traditional Sub and the fact that's it not the as prevalent.

The Sub has more Symmetry. Plus while diving, do you really need to know the date?

i didn't choose one over another, it was all timing.

i had a sub date first (2t), then the sub 4 line. both are unique and i don't see one as better than the other, just different.

I chose the 14060M (2 liner) because it's my generation's version of the original Submariner.

The Sub is a classic choice, the date is the newcomer!

Not a cyclops fun unless its on a daydate or GMT.

Plus the sub is the fun watch. Don't want to know what date it is. Only reminds me when work or responsibility starts again. The sub is a constant vacation.

Also prefer the look and it feel larger then the date somehow. Date is too congested.

Funny, I was beginning to miss this exact topic. So much so that I almost - but I stopped myself - goggled it. Thank God I didn't. So glad now.

Love the simplicity of the dial, also a lot easier to set the time if you are rotating watches. Setting the time on my Daytona and ND SubC is much easier than my GMT2.

Yes...Symmetry. I have my GMT for when I travel, convenient to have a date and home time; however, when I am home my Sub C gets more wrist time.

Not me. Even if they priced the Sub higher than the SUb with date, I would still choose the SUb.

I picked the 14060m 2 liner , I wanted no other . Not the 4 , nor the date. For me it's what a sports rolex should be.

I had a 5512 and couldn't get over the lack of date though the dial is better looking than the date version with the 'blister' on it.

I ended up with the GMT and there are plans in the pipeline to 'improve' the look imo.

BTW good to see the OP has called the watches in question 'Submariner' and Submariner date' as there is no such model Rolex call a 'Submariner no date'.

I brought the date first and went off the cyclops. Traded for dssd. But that was too big. A few years later the 114060 was born - it was what I'd been looking for all along - it just hasn't been made yet!!!

cleaner looks and the fact that the ND traces it's heritage all the way to the original sub and better fits with the cliché "tool watch" - less is more, anything absolutely not required isn't featured on the ND

I was in the shop, the jeweler fitted my wife for some earrings, pulled me aside and asked "aren't you going to treat yourself?" He showed me both, I didn't know about the ND, and I liked the simplicity and cleaner look, and that was that!

Because I do not need a date on a watch, I do not like the cyclops eye sticking up and I prefer a cleaner, simpler and symmetrical dial to look at for telling the time

I wanted my first Rolex to be NIB from an AD. After my research last summer I decided that I wanted to go old school, old style bracelet and clasp, old style case. The 14060 was the only option for NIB. The lug hole case and cleaner dial were a bonus. I can honestly say now that if both the Sub as well as the Sub date would have both been avaliable to me in the older style I would have chosen exactly what I had chosen anyway. I love my Sub!

Really surprised myself that in the flesh I don't like the cyclops.

It's symmetrical.

Cleaner looks.

Heritage.
