Ok, I am sure you are going to want to throw things at me but I just don't understand, and I want to.

I recently purchased a 1998 Sub Date it is really nice I just love it. My goal was to get a Plat and SS Yachtmaster, and I still hope to soon. I had planned to trade in on the Yacht, but from reading all the post's about the Sub and how much everyone love's their subs I think I want to keep it.

I'm just wondering what all the hype about the sub is. I'm new to this please fill me in.

Thanks for the help I hope to learn a lot.

The Submariner is one of the best models for holding its value. Usually purchasing new, you can turn around after wearing the heck out of it for 10 years and make money selling it used.

Not to mention the durability, and classic good looks

That's right...Sub is the classic sports Rolex! When the public think of a black bezeled tool watch, they think of the Sub first :)

What I really like about the Sub is the fact that it is one of the most classic Rolex watches. It's also very sporty looking and I can dress it up and down. I especially like the stainless steel/black combo that looks great with both tux, suits and jeans & t-shirts. It is just so versatile. Love it!

The Submariner is a classic piece like everyone has said. You only need to look around at the plethora of dive watches on the market both past and present to see the design DNA that has been transplanted (a polite term here for 'copied'

) time and time again (pun intended

)

You have in your possession a watch that holds an important part in horological history and it's tough and accurate, not to mention very attractive. I own several Rolex watches, but the Sub has seen the most wrist time and the most action out of all my watches. It continues to serve me after 10 years and will continue to do so for many more years to come.

I hope this helps you figure out why it's such an important and much appreciated timepiece.

Few watches have enjoyed the popularity and history the Submariner has. A watch that been used by professional and recreational divers, elite Military units, Astronauts, the every day guy, and a certain secret agent.

The Sub. in any of it's forms is truly the iconic sports watch.

I have an 18K Datejust that was my grandfather's watch. It 45 years old. I'm having it serviced right now so don't have any pics. That was my first Rolex, my Grand Mother gave it to me about 15 years ago after my Grand Father died. I have never been able to wear it because the band is in such bad shape and very stretched out I fear it could break.

I'm having the watch serviced, and a crock band put on it for now, until I can find/afford a new 18K band for it.

I've only had the sub for a week and originally just purchased it as a place holder while I waited on a Yachtmaster, but I have grown to really like this watch in such a short time and now I don't think I will be trading it but just adding the Yacht if I still feel the need to.

I'm really glad I found this forum, wish I found it years ago you guys could have given me info on my DJ.

Welcome to TRF!

The SS Sub Date is THE iconic Rolex out there. Although the Blancpain "Fifty Fathoms" was introduced before the Sub, the Sub was to set the standard for the classic look of a diver's watch.

The fact that James Bond wore a Sub in many Bond movies also added to the hype.
