Buy a Rolex in Taiwan?
I might be heading for Taiwan for business shortly. Still looking for my first Rolex. I know nothing about Taiwan, never been yet. Lets assume you can find a real AD. Can anyone tell me about currency exchange, discounts vs USA, any chance of buying a fake from a shop that claims to be an AD etc.

I will second Lars' advice! You can contact RSC Taiwan and have them tell you which AD's to go for. As for discounts, most sport's Rolex watches will not be discounted, at all.

Actually in order to see the taiwan dealers at rolex.com you should find somebody from taiwan to enter the site cause the site detects automatically where you are situated from your internet connection. It is so stupid that rolex didn't put an option to choose a country

Yes. That's why he should contact RSC Taiwan.

Thanks for the advice. The only reason I would ever consider it was if someone replied that the dollar is huge in Taiwan (I assumed it isn't) and XYZ dealer discounts 40% etc. (Yes I know 40% isn't realistic, just an example.)

You are absolutely right - I thought by changing your location, that you could see all ADs. But you can't. As Bo was saying, he should contact RSC in Taiwan directly then.

i was in taipei two months ago. The taipei 101 building is a good place to buy. think there's a dickson watch outlet. I recall seeing the price tag but can't recall how much it was cos there were too many zeros!

one USD = 32.09 Taiwan Dollars. (http://www.xe.com or any forex sites.)
BTW, this is how I buy watches from Asia (I'm in Australia, your experience maybe different.) 1. never bring a watch when you leave home. 2. goto the dealer there and haggle. Be prepared to leave until they give u good discounts. 3. offer to pay using Amex or get more discounts with cash. 4. after buying the watch, unwrap it and wear it immediately. Pack up the box, cert, receipt and send it back home via post. 5. wear it back home. Customs cannot pick on you because for Australia, they cannot prove that you didn't wear the watch out of the country in the first place, so they can't tax u if they an't find another wath in your baggage :-) US customs maybe different though. I never buy valuables in airport duty free shops. just the bags are dead giveaway to be taxed! |
