question about gray market

The way I understand the way the gray market works, most reputable gm dealers get their watches from AD's. The AD will order more watches than they can sell, to keep a quota with the manafacturer ( in this case Rolex ). And sometimes they just can't sell what they have in stock.
So they sell them to GM dealers.

I've heard that many GM dealers offer the Warranty card that is stamped from the AD.
In that case, why doesn't Rolex honor that warranty ? How would Rolex even know that the watch wasn't bought directly from the AD they shipped the watch to ?

Thanks,
Floyd

I doubt that grey market dealers have certificates stamped with AD names.

Has happened in the UK for a while a grey dealers was selling a lot of watches stamped with the retailers name dated no name on documents.

I purchased my Sub from a forum memeber BNIB the card was dated but unnamed. I called Rolex UK and explained the situation, they put me through to a customer service manager who explained as long as the Retailer had dated the warranty card and this had not been tampered with. I was quite at liberty to put my own address details on the warranty and therefore benefit from the warranty priviledges. They also went on to state, this happens a lot when watches are bought as gifts, however they insist the warranty must be dated by the AD. A shop receipt is not required for any warranty claim.

So there you have it from the horses mouth in the UK.

That's what I'm questioning about. I would assume that in those cases, that Rolex would honor the watch as if it were bought from an AD. I can't see how they would even know it wasn't bought from an AD.

That's very interesting - has anyone seen this here in the US from any GM dealers?

Yes. My TOG bought thru a grey dealer has the warranty card stamped with the AD indentification and is complete and signed by the AD. Purchaser name/info was left blank for me to complete.
