I'd get this vintage Rolex circa 1950s

but it would be on my wrist regularly, not in a drawer

that's not enough money to buy anything interesting enough to be an investment. more importantly, why would you buy it and not want to wear it? i don't think many of us are buying watches and hiding them in a vault for a few decades. buy it and wear it! :)

I like to buy watches to wear. It's interesting to note that in Eric Clapton's biography he mentions that when trying to raise funds for his yatch, his really rare and expensive Patek's were nowhere worth what had hoped.

A new watch, even a Rolex, would probably not be the greatest investment......

but for yourself, you can't go wrong with a Rolex DJ.

My advice is buy the 14060 and wear it for 15-20 years and have it serviced and sell it. You get your money worth back and some worldly experiences.

Yes, it's £2,500. But why buy a new one if you are going to store it? Better to buy an older watch and save a pile of cash. The investment doesn't have as far to climb to make a return. A good no date sub can be had for about £1,500. In 20 years from now, it won't matter if you bought it new or not.

And for the record, I would only ever buy a watch if I would wear it. I also don't believe in storing them for the future. Rolex watches need to be worn, cherished and enjoyed.
Whoa, reign yourself in there a minute hotshot!

I said I'd register it in my son's name...that doesn't mean I wouldn't be wearing it in the meantime. Hell the only way I'd be buying another watch right now would be if I could delude my wife into thinking it was for our recently born son! Underhanded...I guess but hey, I'd be wearing a nice new 14060.

As I believe my posts stated...I'd probably invest in the OP midsize for my wife...trust me the couple of quid a rolex is gonna lose/make over the next twenty years is gonna be nothing when compared to how happy she'd be if I bought her a new Rolex!
