Datejust 116200 dials
I'm in the process of buying myself a 116200. It will be THE watch for me - I do appreciate watches a great deal, but I'm a one watch kind of guy. Also, I don't have the financial means of owning several high end timepieces. So I'd want to make the right decision. I recently bought a 1976 1601 in stainless steel, thinking that vintage Rolex would be the way to go for me, but I never really 'felt' that watch. So I more or less have decided to go all new and get a watch that I can enjoy for many years to come and hopefully pass on to the next generation.
So, I seem to have narrowed it down to the following: - 116200 (smooth bezel DJ) - Oyster bracelet (polished center links on this model) - Black dial (or at least a darker color) I am tied between two dials, the black roman and the black concentric arabic: A thing I would want to be able to do with the watch is put it on an alligator strap, either black or dark brown, like this but with a black dial: I'm not really sure whether the concentric arabic dial will be too sporty to put on a dressier strap. Definetely the black roman is the dressiest. What do you think? |

Although a fan of Arabic dials I prefer the Roman but in a white dial or Champagne.

I like the Roman numerals. One thing to consider is the lume. The Roman numerals don't have it, which is a plus because it won't fade with time and a minus if you really love lume.
I also happen to think that black dials are good with light brown (almost cognac) straps, not so much dark brown. Good luck. |

I like the romans myself. :-) If you go with the oyster and smooth bezel you have a nice mix of fancy dial and sporty bracelet. Black is gorgeous. I don't know how old your eyes are but can you see the dial well? I think a few guys that have the silver dial said it was also a bit difficult to read. The black with white sticks is one I considered. I bought the white dial and silver romans. :-)
Good luck. |

Roman is more iconic Rolex IMHO...and the black dial you have selected is a beauty.

I prefer romans to arabics overall, but I'd imagine you'd encounter some legibility issues with a black roman dial. Have you considered the black stick/baton dial?

Thanks for all the replies!

Is that the black concentric dial? It looks almost blue in that light. Or maybe it is because of the blue strap? Quote:
Black roman looks much more dressy and as vitalsignsrn said, a dressy-ish dial with the oyster bracelet will give a good combination. I'm not really a fan of the jubilee in it's current form with crown clasp. I think it suited it better with a visible clasp. |

This is the one I love. I went after the blue face ceramic TT sub. However, the moment I laid eyes on this beauty I fell in love. So classy, have you ever considered this variation? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
