I don't know about you all but I really dislike the E class, current gen or not.

If you want something like the S, it's hard to find a real challenger to the Mercedes, but it's no sportscar-- even with the AMG package. I thought the CLS was basically an E Class with the sporty looks, which is a much different car.

I would avoid Benz, Audi and anything Japanese. Get a BMW or Porsche.

If your 42, need to lug some people, have some style and cred...... ignore all of these and go for Maserati Quatroporte. SOund awesome are reasonably reliable and you don't look like every other person driving a German 4 door box. Live brother live.......

I ended up getting an E-350 with AMG sport package. It's not the sexiest car I could have bought, but it drives fantastic and it didn't break the bank. I've been driving Infiniti's for the past 10 years and never knew how much I was missing out. These German's know a thing or two about engineering.
Thanks for the advice guys! |

I'm a Porsche guy and not into either of the MB choices. I would choose a BMW 6 series (convertible as I love a rag top), or a Porsche Panamera. You could get a nice preowned of either of these with that budget.

I just got a lexus gs350 after driving the e class and 5 series and I like the car... For the money and the lease program made sense on the gs350 over both German cars.. I really wanted a a6 3.0 turbo but the lease was crazy they wanted like 800 a month with 2k down where I got the gs for 599 sign and drive..

OP has already purchased his car.
For around 60, I would've purchased a used g class or a new tesla or put more for the new S.

Some people would call the driving experience of a Benz comfortable, but to me it is just numb. The S-class will make a good chauffeur driven car, but a driver's car it is not. I hate the feeling of being driven when I am at the wheel. That is for a normal Benz. The AMG Benzes are terrible for another reason. Too much power for an inadequate chassis. Would choose a BMW M model or Porsche instead.

So far so good on this E350. I've done the Japanese luxury thing for 10 years now, so this Benz is an entirely different experience. My research shows BMW is a lot worse in terms of service needed and cost. Our local BMW dealer is really bad about warranty fixes too. They try to point the finger back on the customer, whereas Mercedes will just fix it to keep the customer happy, that includes most "normal wear and tear" items. This is what I'm being told anyway from multiple sources.
I become bored of cars really quick (and watches), so I'm sure I'll be driving something different this time next year anyway. This E will be a good German starter car for me. One more point, as far as feeling the road, this E is very responsive, much more than any Infiniti I've owned. I'm sure there are other performance cars that blow this E350 away, but this is the best driving experience I've had, so the future is bright! |
