Would you buy a GMT with Spider Dial?

I have found a fairly priced GMT16750 that looks very nice but has a Spider Dial. I'm aware of the likes and dislikes of what is basically a production flaw, but would like to poll you gents to get a clear yes/no picture. So, would you buy or not buy one of these, which is otherwise attractive and nicely priced?

Not my cup of tea at all.
Sure many others may love it. But you asked for opinions and that is mine:)

Can you explain what a spider dial is? Do you have a photo of the dial? I've never heard of one.

The only pics I can find are on other forums and not sure it's appropriate to take from there and post here, but if you do a Google image search for Rolex Spider Dial you will see many examples. Basically it was a flaw with Rolex's earliest attempts at glossy dials in the 1980s, which made them crack like old paintings or crazy paving. So I suppose the question should be "Are Spider Dials all they are cracked up to be?" Excuse the pun.

Some Rolex flaws over the years have resulted in unique coloration and aging. This flaw is just...a flaw IMHO. Mentally I'd be factoring in the cost of a service dial.

There's nothing wrong with liking these cracked dials, just don't pay a premium for the cracks.

some call it spider i call it cracked
some call their dials leopard i call them ruined...

to me the only desirable dial change is the real tropical dial, evenly faded to a dark to light chocolat, all the rest is just marketing talk

I have got to agree, while sellers try and make them special, it is a flaw that can cause problems. It is like a window that is cracked and you are just waiting for it to come apart. I had a TT Sub that the RSC would not service until I replaced the dial, because they thought it could chip and damage the movement.

Ask ten different people, get ten different answers…

I purchased a Spider or Crazed dial watch once… I thought it looked very cool…

The vast majority of people do not like them and if you ever decide to part with it, it will not be an easy sell…

Some will say that the paint on the dials will eventually flake off…

Others say if it hasn't flaked by now then the dial surface is stable so no worries…

It's anybodies guess

Not for me - a bit of crazing may be acceptable on an old oil painting, but not a watch dial, IMO. If you like it, then go for it!

I would purchase one ONLY if there was enough of a discount in the price to purchase a period correct non-defective dial

I don't see why anybody would ever buy a cracked "spider" dial. I certainly don't see the appeal of buying what is essentially a watch with a ticking time bomb of a dial that can break apart at any moment and as a result screw up the movement.

A matte 16750 is much more desirable IMO. Matte dials always trumps any Glossy WG surround dials.
