How to you combat scratches and more importantly get over them!
Hey guys,
Just got my first and for sure not my last Rolex Subc 116610LN. Beautiful watch, really loving it. How to you combat and avoid scratches. every scratch i get on it hurts me i feel so annoyed, how do you get over them? Also got a really small scratch on the Ceramic Bezel, you can't see it unless you shine a light on it but still it gets to me :( Monaldo88 Submariner 116610LN. |

Get more watches. Wearing them in rotation spreads the scratches out so you forget them.

I've scratched or dinged a few, but to be honest I wear watches all the time and rarely scratch them. I see some watches and I wonder how people even scuff and scratch them as much as they do.

A change in mindset is the only way to turn wear and destroy into wear and enjoy.

I never could get used to it........so I crossed over to the Dark Side. Vintage pieces come already scratched, so no reason to get all OCD about removing them as it affects value. Weird how that works eh?

enjoy them..
The first few really sting...but after some time and love, they all blend together and I think actually look better! Use them for what they are made for, and during service, if you choose, have them polished. I actually like the lived in look personally.
If I was too OCD about scratches, I'd buy a........wait for it....Patek. Maybe Bond was worried about scratches so he used a NATO. Your Rolex would certainly prefer to be out seeing the world than sitting in a dark safe. |

I don't embrace them but they can't be helped ... The watch can always be restored, parts can be replaced, no biggie.
Most of the watches I worried about are long flipped ... so it is all an unnecessary waste of energy ...

actually bezel and crystal seem indestructible and have no marks, the case and bracelet are pretty beat up this watch is mainly worn by my wife who COULD CARE LESS if a watch gets scratched, so..every mark on it I can guarantee had been made by her but she loves the watch and wears it and more importantly enjoys it and that is the bottom line for watches for me, to enjoy them, however we each do that in our own way also that ceramic bezel seems unmarkable! |

The best way to avoid scratches is to not wear your watch.

Before you go out for the day wrap your watch in blue painters tape. This way there won't be any sticky residue and you will be unique!

Every scratch on my SD has a meaning for me. For example the first scratch on my SD was done during a reef swim-through in Roatan. Then there were the scratches acquired boulder hopping in Canyonlands with my Daughter. It's all good!!!

As everyone said, they happen,so if you want to be in this thing of ours you'd better learn to accept it.
I had a realization about it years ago when I was admiring a watch on my uncle's wrist. It was gorgeous and I couldn't take my eyes off it. My uncle saw me staring at it and said, "Want to try it on?" My eyes got big as saucers as he took it off and put it on my wrist. But once I had it on my own wrist and it was right in front of me I could see all the swirlies and hairline scratches. Once back on his wrist though, it looked beautiful once again. About a year ago I took some pictures of one of my pieces, a TT GMT2C. In some of the pics, because of the way the light hit the watch, the scratches on the PCLs just stood out and I thought WTF, when did my watch get all beat up? But when I looked at it on my wrist it looked fine. Only on close examination when the light hit it a certain way did the scratches become noticeable. In that moment I realized that a great watch with the usual wear marks still looks great on your wrist to everyone who sees it (including yourself) as the light catches it differently as your wrist moves. It really only looks "bad" when closely scrutinized. We tend to look at our own watches so intently as though through a loupe, rather than as they are in their natural habitat, on the moving wrist of a living breathing person. And you can always look forward to the day it comes back from service looking showroom fresh again.

Scratches will happen eventually. I always try and avoid them by handling my watches with care and watching door jams as I walk by.

As others have already said, scratches WILL happen, but there are definitely things you can do to avoid them.
With my Omega, I never put it in a case when I wasn't wearing it. I'd just set it down wherever and pick it up when I was ready to wear it again. Obviously I never put it on sandpaper, but still, I think the watch collected a lot of scratches that way. With my 114060, I am making a point of keeping it in a case (small casebudi for now) when I'm not wearing it. I know I will pick up scratches along the way, but that's just the way it is. |

Seriously, one needs professional help if these things are that annoying. What would you think if you saw someone else get so disturbed by these things? It is not normal. Assuming your question is not a joke, I strongly recommend professional assistance.

Put a Rubber B Strap on it, and Leave the Bracelet at home, it looks great, its very comfy, and it will preserve your Rolex Bracelet!
