Better hurry and jump on that one special piece my friend! Also make sure the AD doesn't steal a link from you and sell it on the black market.

A couple of weeks ago I read on the tele-type screen in the elevator going up to my office that luxury watchmakers were expecting a rather prosperous year for watch sales in 2014.

My next door neighbor's cousin's best friend's little sister knows a guy who works with a guy whose frat brother's step-mom's first husband's uncle knows a guy who used to have a roommate that worked for an AD - back in the 90's. And according to him, it's true. There is a price increase in the pipeline for 2014.

It doesn't get any more reliable than that. It really doesn't.

I was told last year by an AD that they would increase the price by 8% in Oct 2013.

Didn't happen, it's a sales tactic. Prices will increase eventually, but they would not tell a sales rep when and how much it would be before it happens.

What would be a great sales tactic was if Rolex actually announced price increases a month in advance. Anyone teetering on the fence would buy before the increase.

I actually do welcome the increases though as long as I am not planning a purchase in the short term because since the products are unchanged when an increase happens, it actually makes my timepieces appreciate in price. It is about the only thing other than decades worth of time that can make a Rolex increase in value.

If rolex announced the price increase a month in advance, people would take that as a buying opportunity and bought in bulk the popular model like sports model. So regular people like us who would just buy for our own would never get the piece that is popular and end up with the new price. Moreover, i think AD would rather sell with new price.

My understanding is that ADs as well as sales reps are about as in the dark as us mere consumers regarding Rolex price increases. My local AD told me once they get 3 days notice max. Rolex doesn't want ADs to place big orders just in time to beat an increase.

Obviously at some point they will go up, so eventually one of these threads will be correct and the OP of that thread will look like a genius.
