Is Rolex about to discontinue the DSSD? Does the DSSD become a 'cult' classic one off? short production run under 10 years?

IF Rolex was to release a 42mm SeaDweller this Basel **I think they wont, but than again that thought is as valid as Rolex will release a 50mm Breitling for Bently look alike we simply dont know..

back on track. IF Rolex releases a 42mm Sea Dweller and discontinue the DSSD does the DSSD instantly become that 'modern classic'? it will have been around a similar length of time as the now discontinued 16610LV

I will tell you this, I had no intentions of buying the DSSD, but if it is discontinued at Baselworld, I am headed to the AD the same day. It will be the new safe king sitting next to my current safe queen (16610 "M").

DSSD will be there for another 10-15 years. Rolex keeps its value by making no changes or minor tweaks to its watches. This is a no brainer in the Rolex world if you know enough about its history. My 2cents

Just cannot see why any modern day Rolex is a safe queen especially watches like the 16610 thats hardly changed since 1988 when it was introduced.There must be a million plus of these around today and all basically the same,and just cannot see Rolex discontinuing the DSSD even if its not a huge volume seller.

I love my DSSD. I hardly take it off my wrist ever since I got it :) If they discontinue it, I will be forever be glad that I bought one right now. If they don't, I will stay perennially happy to know that many more will be able to enjoy this beauty. Offlate, I have noticed a surge in the number of people buyin or considering the DSSD. The growing interest in the DSSD makes me smile simply cos I know I made the right choice and because even though we love something (and I don't mean people, but a thing) a little buttress from others reinforces your love in the product even more.

I seriously doubt that Rolex would discontinue the Deepsea.

As for buying and keeping it as an investment, all I can say is that for it to make sense, you'd have to buy maybe 5 or 10 watches, lock them away and hope that even if the model is withdrawn from production that the price really does rise in the secondhand market.

To answer your second question: yes. Rolex is always up to something.

However, as to what that is, only they know. It is futile for you to do much planning about an unknown.

There is always speculation about everything at Rolex you normally find that very very little is true or happens, we all just have to wait for Rolex to announce anything special.

doubt they'll discontinue the dssd. the cost of development and the tooling for repairs needs to be made up over more time. its also a halo model imho as its a testament to the engineering heritage and investment rolex makes in timekeeping. it sells other rolexes by not even selling itself if that makes sense... also, tiger likes it.

Yup....all Rolex watches are a mass produced product with little to no collectibility other than a affordable alternative to buying one new. Think of them as. MD C Class. This works for Rolex because a 20 year old used model looks reasonably close to a new model at a significant discount. This is the appeal to the entry level buyer and keeps the resale strong for the present time.

A good watch design will always stand the test of time so if you consider the DSSD a good design is a matter of taste.
