President bracelets; 83206 v. 83856

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 83206 and 83856 bracelets?

the 83206 seems to be the current model; was the 83856 the same but with the different/older style clasp? i cant find any reference to it anywhere. (except as the zip code to priest river, idaho)

thanks,

mark

Just for reference, on my clasp is 83208 (not 06?), a 750 on one lug, nothing on the links! I have an F series YGDD. I would like to know more on this myself.

the 750 says its 18k (18/24=0.750)

the last number says what metal it is; 8 for yellow gold, 6 for platinum, 5 for pink gold, 9 for white gold.

the other numbers are the style, which is what i cant figure out.

Geez! There IS a time difference of up to 9 hours between Denmark and the USA, ya know!

Anyway, I have no clue as to what the difference is. I can only second that it is a President bracelet in Platinum. As suggested above, the difference in numbers might refer to the old versus the new-style clasp.

The first 2 digits "83" are the same and the last digit was defined by Markg as "8 for yellow gold, 6 for platinum, 5 for pink gold, 9 for white gold."

So it looks like the 3rd and 4th digit designate the clasp style. Waltk1026 mentioned that his "F" series YG DD is labeled "83208". I do know that the "New Clasp" was introduced on the "F" series. I have a "K" series YG DD with the older style clasp (see pic) and the code on mine is 83858. Keep in mind that both braclets are the updated 118238 models.

I would say that...
83206 is the updated heavier bracelet in Rose Gold w/NEW clasp
83856 is the updated heavier bracelet in Rose Gold w/OLD clasp

Steve:

that makes sense, i have seen the 83856 referred to on ebay as the "new" heavier bracelet; guess it is new compared to something older, but just not the newest.....But i couldnt find any pictures of the clasp, so couldnt tell what was different.

however, as to introduction dates; the new clasp was introduced during the K series, at least for the platinum watches. for example, a K55**** 118206 style has the 83206 bracelet.

(note that the 118206 is also the updated model, only with the domed bezel vs the fluted bezel)

that same watch has a band code of AD6, so if you believe in the bracelet dating thats been posted on the net, that would equate to a bracelet manufacturing date of 6/03 which would put it in "F" territory, at least timewise. Likely they reserved serial numbers for the watch, then built them out at some later time with the newer band. (note the original green tag confirms this is original rolex build)

i wish rolex would just publish a catalog with all these numbers in it!!

thanks for the help decoding this.

mark

Here's a look at the updated clasp which I believe started with the "F" series (at least for the YG/WG models).

Good post

Just checked my price list that also includes prices of bracelets and single links:

The 83206 is the Platinum bracelet for the DD's in Platinum ref. #'s 118206, 118296, 118346 and 118366. The cost of that bracelet on its own is US $ 25,350, btw.!

The 83856 is also in Platinum and for the same models listed above, but costs a little less: US $ 25,050.

The price difference is - as stated - probably due to the updated clasp of the 83206.

First great thread as I am in the market for a YGDD and want the heavier new style bracelet (is 30% correct?) when was that "83856" indroduced? Obvoiusly previous to the F new style clasp.
Also wonder as far as pricing what a new style bracelet,83856,with a older style clasp would discount over the new clasp ones?Guess that new clasp is alos a wee bit heavier as well.
Thanks
Dave

Bo;

thanks for the info! if the 83856 is less $, it has to be the clasp. i was curious because the number number was higher, so i figured it might be the newer model.

but i cant wait to see the prices after the next increase; that band is going now for almost what i paid for the whole watch just a few years ago!! and platinum has almost tripled in the last year!

Dave, here it is in a nutshell. You don't need be too concerned with the numbers above (were just splitting hairs). Basically it comes down to 2 models, the 18238 and the 118238. The 18238 is the lighter version and ran up until 1999. In 2000 the "K" series (model 118238) was introduced with the newer/heavier bracelet, along with a few more updates (see below). Although there have been a few more updates since 2000 (also mentioned below), the model number has remained the same...118238.

Here are some of the updates introduced in 2000 with the "K" Series model 118238.

-Solid center links and end links (overall 35% heavier then 18238 models)
-Re-designed "End Links" that fit completely flush against case
-Polished lugs (Sides of the links are polished)
-Completely polished case (18238 was polished on sides and brushed on top)
-Slightly domed sapphire crystal
-All gold (no lume stripe) hands were introduced
-LEC (Laser Etched Crown) introduced
-Updated Diamond dial w/"Pyramid" style settings
-Lume added to "sticks" (hour markers) on the stick dial

Since the major upgrades in 2000, there have been a few more updates:
-Updated Clasp in 2003 "F" Series
-Chapter Ring in 2006 "Z" Series

Good Luck & keep us posted,
Steve

I have a friend with an older band and the new band is substantially heavier when you put one watch in each hand.

The new band will also be tigher and not get as loose I was told by my AD.

Here is my band.

Golfball, the new style (polished) clasp was introduced in 2003 with the "F" Series.
