Daytona and AD questions
Hi all,
I'm finally ready to take the plunge and have two questions: Has it become easier to find/purchase an SS Daytona or are there still waiting lists? Can someone recommend a good AD in north NJ or NYC? Can I expect any type of discount or based on difficulty to find are they retail? Thanks in advance |

Sounds like this is your first Rolex? So you probably don't have an existing relationship with an AD? Go with the trusted sellers. You'll save a lot of time and money.

If you must go to an AD (e.g. see it in person), both Wempe and William Barthman are good options. That said, I agree with both of the posts above.

I don't think you should expect a discount at an AD on the Daytona.
It can be done, but after building good track record. If that's an issue, I'd take Mike's advice and check with a trusted seller here. |

I've not considered buying from a third party seller. Does the rolex warranty come in tact? How is this different than buying grey market?
A quick glance at the for sale on this forum looks like the daytonas available are a few hundred less than retail, is that about what to expect? Thanks for all the quick replies. This will be my first rolex and I can't be more excited!! |

These previous posts are correct. I was at a somewhat local AD and inquired about a SS Daytona and was told there was a waiting list and that your relative position on the list depended on your relationship with them. So I have to buy an undisclosed amount of watches to move up an undisclosed list to buy a watch likely at MSRP. I just bought used from someone I trusted and from whom I had bought before. Simple and saved a lot of money.
A minimal amount of homework here can give you a list of many well established and trusted sellers here. You shouldn't need to play the AD games unless you really want to have a new one |

. Warranties are not always available from third party sellers and you seldom have recourse for complimentary cleanings, interaction, and close relationships except from an Authorized Dealer. . Gray Market is the import market, bypassing the Authorized Distributor. Gray Market watch do not come with valid warranties. The Daytona is a great watch and for a few hundred bucks, peace of mind can be a wonderful thing..

Pick one up here and save the hassles. I waited over two years for one at an AD (back in the day) when the MSRP was $7900 and they were "rare" and being flipped by anyone who could get one for $10,000.
I just wanted one to own and wear. Took me two years, a lot of purchases, a LOT of BS from the AD and then they would not let me buy it and leave the store with it unless I had something/anything engraved on the back to keep me from flipping it (which I had no intention of doing.) Get one here. You'll have it in week with a warranty with your name on it. |

You are not going to easily find the SS Daytona in the tri-state area...believe me I tried.

I tried to buy a SS Daytona in ny and Nj for 5 years starting in 2004. Never have I saw one in an ad until 2009 when I saw mine in Maui. I could have gotten one here way earlier, but I did want that ad experience since Daytona was my first major watch purchase. In the recent year the price of used Daytona has fallen a bit... I haven even seen older SS Daytona for 8-9 k. If you don't care about the ad experience then you can save a lot by buying here. Good luck.

Strongly suggest contacting a trusted seller. Forget the AD experience.

Just bought a SS Daytona with white dial (for my wife) from an AD in the UK with a six week wait. He also offered me a black dial for me in a few weeks if I wanted one...

Having recently gone both the AD route and the TRF trusted seller route I can give you my experience on both (I live in NYC). I wanted a white face SS Daytona as my first Rolex back in November.
I went to Wempe and they told me 5 months so I put my name on the list. I then went to the Rolex boutique connected to Tourneau to see what they had. The salesperson I dealt with came back and asked me how serious I was and said I would buy it on the spot if he had a new one. He said give me 48 hours and he would have one...True to his word he called me back the next day and I had my watch the following day. No discount but I didn't expect one. I know Tourneau gets a bad rap sometimes, but I had a really good experience (happy to PM the sales person's name if you are interested). I also picked up a GMT BLNR from DavidSW from the classifieds here. Start to finish, 48 hours, saved some money and would definitely deal with him again. With the SS Daytona you probably won't save much if its BNIB even from one of the trusted sellers but you won't have to wait or shop around, but if you can find one at at AD it won't cost you a ton more as that particular model has always been a bit more scarce. |

I bought a used one from Dennis at Gold Watch Co, but he may have a new one too. He backs his watches with a 1 year warranty too.

refreshing to hear. this forum for the most part seems to be one big 'trusted seller' advertisement ADS are not much more expensive than 'trusted sellers' and if you develop a relationship with a AD more often than not they meet 'trusted sellers' price points |

At two ADs within the last two years I was offered SS daytonas at MSRP. They are not that hard to get anymore.

I would PM a trusted seller here. Many sellers here can source you a brand new one at a reasonable price.

First of all welcome! If you are set on purchasing thru an AD, give George at Govberg a call. Also, many here, myself included have used a Trusted Seller.

It's all about time and place sometimes not necessarily the List. This is in Manhattan.
And, while I have nothing against trusted seller here on the forums. If it is your first Rolex, nothing beats the AD experience. I'll never forget strolling through Wempe and then patiently making my decision. Chocolates and Pellegrino while I looked with my fiancé . When I was finally ready to pull the trigger... Moments later two champagne flutes and a bottle of Veueve Clicquot. With that said, I will probably seek out on of TRF trusted Sellers for my next purchase. But, for the first one… ah, I'll always remember the first one |

Try Lee Perla in the riverside square mall.
They are excellent. I mean excellent. But don't expect a discount. AND do not go to the one in the garden state plaza mall. They are like vultures. I won't even go in to look anymore. It is very uncomfortable.

I'm in the same market as the OP. I have found a new white face SS Daytona from my local AD for $12000, but will try the trusted seller route. I'll give it a week. Although I may loose out on the new one.

Took me a day to find one and about 1 more day to get it :). I went with an AD and loved the entire experience. You can find them at the ad just have to ask around a little.
Also ad prices are pretty close to the trusted sellers on the Daytona. So I personally would go the AD route on this one and I have purchased from both trusted sellers and AD |
