I would have RAN to go get one if it were in the 36-39mm size.

I tried on the WG on bracelet the other day at an AD in southwest Fl. It felt really, really good to me on the wrist. Great size for my wrist and not as heavy as I was expecting, maybe because the bracelet offered some balance.

Anyway, I made a Basel comment, as this was the night before Basel 2014. Sales associate said that everyone was clamoring about the new sky dweller prior, but then when they finally came in, not nearly as many showed up to purchase. That and 4 quarters gets you a dollar.

I don't think it is selling in great numbers. I have seen them at many ADs during the past 12 months. Great watch for sure. Liked the RG with chocolate dial the most from original lineup. Can't wait to see the models in person.

By comparison I have not seen a single comment on any of the many Platona threads about it being too small. You tend to get those about the SS versions where the intent is more daily wearing sports watch where a Platinum Daytona is more likely to be seen by most as a Dress watch. Just my thoughts.
I agree with you...To make my choice I put a new and classic president side by side. The newer one looks chunky and the bezel is big for this watch and some clearly like this but I thought the classic was just far more sophisticated and nicer design by far....conclusion ... Just taste.

All ADs seem to have these in stock. Suppose they aren't great sellers, but I want one!! Badly!

Wow, nice to see this resurrected :)

Like the 3 new Sky-Dwellers unveiled at Basel this year. Especially like the red accent on the calendar function.

However, i think the original 3 Sky-Dwellers would look nice with the red on the calendar wheel as well.

Small inconsistencies like this bother me for some reason. Similar to the different hands on the YM2.

At Tourneau Naples at the Waterside Shops? If so I tried on the same one. Very impressed

Or, sales are exceedingly slow in this model and in order to justify the research and development of this watch, they have decided to come out with more dial and strap options to try and boost sales. Possibility, that's all.....

Bingo ! A sporty dress watch like this should have been a few mm smaller.
I understand the movement and extra month markers need room but still.
I can't help but believe most who can afford such a watch do not want an oversized dressy watch. And say what you want, a fluted bezel Rolex IS dressy.

I think the SD fuses sports and dress perfectly

Agreed ! That's why I wrote 'sporty dress watch'.
Any Oyster series (by the Rolex definition) is a fusion between dress and sport.
Why else the 100m depth rating?
The smooth or domed bezel leans more towards sport , the fluted bezel leans more towards dress

Certainly a very high end watch, but not one I would be chasing after.

it services a pretty niche market - blind people who want an expensive watch!

Agreed this is one hell of a beautiful piece no matter the dial/metal color of your choice and it IS selling. Sure it isnt a 9k Sub that anyone can afford and this dramatically slows the sales IMO but a gorgeous piece with a great complication and it is here to stay

It will go steel when day date goes steel. (Never)
And if the YM2 is 18k in SS. The Skydweller will go for 24k SS.
