What RUM are you drinking?

Ok Guys,

I've gone through my whiskey/bourbon years. Spent a few playing around with scotch. Of course vodka goes with many of my mixed drinks and cocktails of choice...

But what can I say I'm getting in to the rum game and having a ton of fun with it.

What are you guys drinking???

I like two breads so far... I like a nice dark spiced rum - neat or rocks. Kraken, Pyrat, and yes... Sailor Jerry's have been topping my list.

I also like light rum for mixed drinks. I can't find it mostly anywhere, but Cohiba made a killer rum that didn't last me very long. Sadly, I even prefer the taste of DonQ to Bacardi.

rum is fun.

I'm not a rum drinker but when I hang out with my yachty friends (can't afford my own boat) I have been known to knock-back a few dark and stormy's. Goslings rum is imperative for that drink. This years Figawi is Memorial day weekend, I'm crewing on my Cape Cod neighbors C class boat, many D&S' will consumed that day!

Love dark and stormys! Goslings is definitely the way to go. It kind of has a black cherry taste i think.

The only rum I drink is when I drink Mai Tais
When I make it I use Bacardi for the white
& Myers for the dark
99% of the time I drink them @ Trader Vic 's, don't know what they use but their Mai Tais are delicious.

I actually want to try captain morgan white. It got a few decent reviews. Hints of coconut menthol etc....

I'm not a rum drinker, but I do enjoy a rum and coke every once in a great while. I like Captain Morgan Private Stock. I'm positive that there are better spiced rums, but like I said, I'm not really a rum drinker.

Not to picky when it comes to rum, or alcohol for that matter. But I rarely drink it when I'm not on a island somewhere.

The 'local' Rum here is "Bundy" which is consumed in very large quantities in country Queensland. It is fine when mixed with Coke & ice for a refreshing summer drink.



When I want to enjoy a Rum straight up or on the rocks I prefer one of these two, or their more expensive older versions.

When I was boating around the islands a few years ago I made it a priority to buy a bottle of Rum from every little local producer I could find.

I ended up with hundreds of bottles, some very good some not drinkable.

I'll have to see what I have left and snap a few pics.

Most of my worst nights on the booze involved Rum, as Aussies Bundy is the only way to go. I remember one ugly night in Vail Colorado, having flown the 24 hours travel time thought I would have a couple of settler beers and dinner before going to bed.

The owner of the bar walked over and told me he had something special to share. He produced a bottle of Bundy over proof rum from memory about 58% alcohol by vol or whatever the measure is, I am not a scientist.

I note Americans did not know how to make a rum and coke, here rum plenty of coke not much ice, in the US lots of ice not much coke. In short more like taking shots.

We spent about 3 hours taking out this 750mm bottle. I remember throwing up in the snow, the next morning among other tragedies I had pulled the tile of the toilet roll holder off the wall when I must have gone for a late night throw up. I missed a days Skiing.......

My warning stay away from Bundy O.P rum.......

If you remember what happened, it wasn't that bad.

This reminds me of my cousin's wedding. I remember "I do" and then waking up the next morning.

Give Pyrat a try if you can find a bottle locally in Aus.
Easily a better neat rum than Appeltons or Mount Gay.

If you can get the real-deal then Havana-Club 15 year is great sipping rum, like cognac or scotch! Almost as good with a cigar as fine Bourbon, don't tell Dan I said that!
