One does not compete with the other IMO...

I have many many TRF friends on IG, but it doesn't stop us from coming here ;) just a mobile option

That's inevitable, people move on, take breaks, get exasperated and or exasperate others it's the nature of internet forums. Add a bunch of humans to the same online community and see what happens... That's us!!

I love TRF and I don't think IG is a direct competition to it.

However, I have noticed that TRF has been very slow the past few months...any ideas?

Hehe I have been all over Europe and Middle East. I am in a town next to Dubai right now, and TRF website is being super slow although other websites are just normal. It was the same when I was in London and Paris. IDK, maybe I just have to go back to the states!

Instagram and Twitter has their place but totally different than TRF. I unfortunately have so much going on in life with work and a possible move that I have not had time to enjoy this fine community as much as I would like.

I love Instagram, and Twitter for some quick news. But like everyone has already mention, TRF is safe, this community will be fine.

Instagram and Twitter seem to both cater to the millennial, I need it now crowd. Not to knock any millennial who might be here, but getting the instant feedback about everything seems to be crucial, whether it be a watch or a picture of a burger or god knows what. I don't get it, but hey, it seems to be what all the cool kids are doing.

Seems to me that all the rest of that stuff is "look at me" based.
At least TRF is "look at me and my watch" based.

TRF will stay. However the current forum design will be replaced. It is way too dated.

Most traditional forums have suffered from an ultimate lack of participation. When you look at some of the topics, many of them had just about covered all the angles. New members would read old posts and threads, not so much post new content. Lead to a decline in a lot of internet forums.

That doesn't seem to be an issue when the subject is Rolex horology.

I could see the web hosting service that TRF resides on upgrading some things over time that may or may not be included in our experience here. Things like "who viewed my post", "what has this member read", look and feel, etc.

But I wager TRF will be going fine in another 10 years with minimal changes and a larger member base, assuming the mods and owner are willing to keep investing their time into it.

Am very thankful that they are!

A bit of a leading question IMO. They're obviously not direct competitors. That said I do enjoy Instagram for what it is. A light glimpse into the lives of interesting people - what they care to share publicly anyway.
