1st post & question
I've been reading the threads for a while. Have learned a lot - thanks, all!
Here's a question I haven't seen (although I'm sure it's been discussed here) ... how many Rolexes do you see "out in the wild" on a given day? In NYC today, I saw eight. Four Subs (three SS, one TT blue), three DJs (two SS, one YG), and one SS Daytona. Eight in a day was more than I usually see, but it was warm so more exposed wrists than during the cold weather. How many are normal for you to see? |

I don't see them as often as I would like too. I don't conduct a lot of "spotting" here in San Francisco... I see maybe one or two a day. One is usually the one I'm wearing on my wrist, the other is when I get home.

I could probably see 50 in Hong Kong in one day if I set my mind to it (on the MTR/subway).

I see quite a few every day.
The wife and I were out to breakfast last Thursday at our local's only dive breakfast place, there were 3 Subs within my line of vision.

Most days none but that all depends on where I'm at. When I visit my daughter in Philly I see many more.
Welcome to TRF, great bunch here!

Hardly any; it makes shopping for cheap Rolexes almost impossible. I do keep a stiletto handy just in case.

1-5 per day here in Downtown Chicago. If I bothered to look closely, I am sure it'd be much more. With the weather heating up and less winter coats, I imagine the number, through casual browsing, would be more like 5-10.

Not many out and about in my city. Customers of my Porsche dealership will frequently wear Rolexes. Major airports are also good for spotting.

At the track I see a lot - maybe 50-60 per day - but when out and about in the general population never notice.

When I'm out and about in Dallas, I can see a few. Normally I see subs or GMTs on the younger crowd, and DJ (especially TT) on the older crowd. Every now and then I do catch someone with a Coke on as well.
There is a guy in my office though that has a Patek Perpetual Annual Calendar, and a TT DJ in his collection...I love when I have meetings with him! |

Once a month or less maybe. If I go to Phoenix area, it's much more. Especially in a Scottsdale.

Tons here in Miami. If I go to bal Barbour or aventura malls on the weekends they are a dime a dozen!

Welcome.
As with most things where you are located plays a big part. "Rolex" is not a rare watch though some references are less likely to be seen than others. In certain locales a Rolex watch is closer to the norm than other things. Rolex makes a ton of watches every year. That they maintain their popularity to the extent they do is IMO a testament to the marketing juggernaught that is Rolex as well as the quality the watches have shown over the years. No matter how many you see the one on your wrist is yours and serves as a statement of the value you place on quality and history. |
