Do you think any rolex watch should be kept running at all times?

I wear my sub mostly during weekends and sometimes it just stops around tuesday or wednesday. I always end up having to reset the time and sometimes the date in order to wear it again.

Setting aside watch winders and all, do you think I should keep my watch wound? or just let it stop and set the time and date every time I need to wear it.

I've heard many theories such as: "letting it run is not good just as a car that is constantly running needs a service due to mileage etc..."

Others I've heard say even if you don't keep it running, the oils of the watch will dry/thicken and would not be good for the watch.

any thoughts?

I hope so, mine's been running since I bought it last summer.

Can somebody tell me it's not ok so I have a good reason to get another one?

Doesn't matter..

A watch that is running is always wearing itself out, but you do put some wear on the other parts by setting and winding frequently.... probably a wash..

"letting it run is not good......." hogwash. A watch, unlike a car, is designed to run continuously for years at a time.

As to the oils drying out, they will dry whether it is running or not... today's synthetics take a long time to reach that stage though..

My feeling is that you should be wearing it all the time - why only wear a watch on weekends... .

I'm coming up on a full year of non stop running and have worn other mechanical watches for years and years non stop without any ill effects.

My sub 16610 ran for close to 12 years straight. The only time
it would stop is if I knew I would not be wearing it for a week or more
and that only happened twice. It is now with the RSC in Toronto.
It still ran fine but I was really pushing the limit of getting it serviced.

The problem I have with my Rolex is not that they are always running but they are reproducing like crazy... Had one and now a dozen, I am not sure what I am going to do here

I immediately run after it...

I've had three years running, non-stop. But, now I rotate watches in my collection about every 2 months or so.

It's definitely made to run for years and years non stop, that being said its certainly not going to hurt it to stop for a day every once in a while.

Leave the rolex running but never go running with a rolex on. They aren't made for it. Cannot withstand the heat nor the arm motion. If you have to run with it on, hold your arm as still as you can. It will still wind from the overall body motion but will not hurt the watch as long as your arm doesn't bounce up and down wildly.

Better you should let run than have to keep unscrewing the crown and letting airborne dust and crud enter your watch and pollute it
