Speedmaster Pro for Milgauss GV?

Just got my speedmaster pro (3570.50) and love the watch and history behind it, but can't seem to get the Milgauss GV out of my head (old model GV).

Can't really justify an additional watch in the collection as I have promised myself just a rotation of four. Speedmaster is such an icon but part of me feels it's a bit tired and that everyone owns one. The GV on the other hand isn't seen very often, love everything about it when I tried it on, and my collection certainly lacks color (as subtle as the GV is).

What would you do? I suppose I could remake a promise to myself for five in the rotation.

Tough one...but...I would do it and in a round about way, I did. Bought My GV last year and sold my speedy pro(which I had for 7 years) to a friend, this spring. I'll probably get another speedy pro someday.
As an only watch, I wouldn't choose a GV, but as part of a broader collection, it's brilliant as there's nothing else like it!

I bought 2 Rolex, 2 Omega and 1 JLC before I got my Speedy Pro. I can't believe it took so long. Wonderful piece. Something tells me you would regret the flip.

I would never trade my Speedmaster Pro...it is one of the most iconic watches ever produced and I consider it one of the high points of any collection.

The smp is not very expensive anyway. Makes no real difference financial wise me thinks.

It sounds like you really like the Speedmaster. Keep it and save for the GV.

An Omega speedmaster, imho, is one of the best value watches you can get and is a great watch to have in a collection. I dont wear mine that much but often find myself wearing it around the house.

I own and wears daily in rotation a rolex, panerai, iwc and JLC but the 3570.50 is next on my wish list. it is a very reasonably priced watch full of history , a must have for a watch collection.

Yes....BUT....since you just bought the Speedy, did you buy it well?

Reason being on a trade or sale, you will take a BATH as the pre-owned value is not great..

So...If you bought well and can trade or sell without much loss...then I would absolutely trade the Omega (plus cash) into a quality ROLEX GV....it's a move that you will never regret....

Always trade other brands INTO ROLEX. Never trade ROLEX against any other brand, except for Patek. Live by those rules and you'll be happy and regret free...

BUT if the money is poor on the Omega, then you may need to hold on to it for awhile and enjoy it. It is a nice watch to have...

Flip the Speedy for the Rolex.
I can understand the love for second hand Speedys on WUS, where the Speedy has 'Grail ' status next to the rest of a collection which might consist of Seikos and Tissots.
Next to any Rolex however the Speedy pales away. An old and not very accurate movement out of the box, a scratch magnet hesalite crystal, no water resistance to speak of, and a crown that makes manual a winding a complete pain.
I wanted to love the Speedy because every other WIS does, but objectively it just isn't as good as a Rolex, and isn't even as good as other Omegas as the same price point.
I owned one for a few months, but just couldn't see what the fuss was about, and could never think of any occasion to choose to wear the Speedy over the SubC.

If really not possible, then flip it and get the GV. GV is a bit more unique than the Speedy. Cool yet under the radar for the non-WIS crowd. Plus the black dial GV is likely to be discontinued given the introduction of the blue dial (just my own assumption given that the ref number is the same). Speedies, on the other hand, will still be produced in 20 years....

Aside from being a classic and an awesome cool watch, the Speedy won't fetch you much money if you sell it, so it's not really worth flipping. Save up, go for five watches!

I did buy the Speedmaster from an AD so would be taking a hit which is why sooner the better given the warranty state. However, if I sold the Speedmaster I would lack a true under the radar watch sports watch as my other thee are a DJ36, EXP42, Dornbluth 99.1 (definitely under the radar but only worn occasionally).

Both are amazing, very different pieces!

I agree, the hit you will take on the pro is not worth it. Rolex and Omega are the only higher end watches I own.

I don't understand some of the reasoning here. The 'hit' would only be taken upon sale of the watch. Why would you sell a Speedmaster? What could possibly be wrong with it? :D
Seems so silly to BUY a watch based on what it might SELL for. Am I way off?

I didn't buy the speedmaster to sell it knowing I'd take a hit. I just rekindled an old love for the GV and needed to be talked off the ledge. Time to save.

You and I should do a "honeymoon's over" trade. Full integrity in that both only wear and admire indoors and in our homes with light use. Then after a week ship back. Not sure if my insurance would cover damages assuming you dropped it on a tile floor?

If you can swing it, go to 5. If you find that 1 of the watches is no longer getting worn in a year, then flip that one.

If I were you, I would keep the Speedy. It's an iconic time piece. I'll probably wait and save money to add a GV to the collection (even thought that model is not exactly my cup of tea...). If you sell the Speedy, You'll probably regret it...
