Help! I love my new Ceramic Diver, but my wrist doesn't!

Hey Fellow AP Fans,

I really need your help here! If you caught my thread from last week, I just bought the all Ceramic Diver from APNY. I am absolutely over the moon about the watch itself, but I am running into a serious problem that I never could have predicted: my wrist . I broke the growth plate in my left wrist twice in my teenage years, and I tend to get pain randomly (usually from exercise - never from a watch). I've never owned a watch as big/bulky as the Diver and it happens to rest right up against the growth plate on my wrist, putting pressure right where the bone broke. My wrist has been aching like crazy toward the end of each day I have worn the watch to the point where I have had to take it off a couple of times. What do you guys think I should do?

1. Endure the pain!
2. Wear the watch sparingly - not every day and not for full days at a time (bear in mind that I can really only justify owning one $20k+ watch, and I bought the Diver to be my daily beater!)
3. Minimize my losses and sell the watch while it’s still new. Perhaps revert to the 15202 (which I know from my 15400 won’t put pressure on my wrist and cause pain)

Thanks in advance for your input!

FWIW, it took me some time to get a good fit from mine. The first week it was far more uncomfortable than my ss diver, but then the strap "loosened" up a bit and no issues after that. Your situation may be different, but you may want to stick with it a bit longer. Whether you flip now or a month from now will not materially impact what you can get for it. Once your drive it off the lot...

I would switch the watch to your other wrist towards the end of the day, it really isn't a big deal as I do it all the time, plus when you look at it on your left wrist you get a more pleasing look of the watch and crown.

If its not comfortable I would let it go, there are too many pieces out there that are also beautiful and might be a better fit for you, move on and look for the next.
Not all pieces are for everyone that is for sure.

Did you try to wear it a bit loose or slightly further up your wrist? If it still doesn't get better, you should sell it and replace with something else if it is that uncomfortable as you described. There are many other choices.

Sell it man. Don't compromise your health and well being for anything, not even for a watch!

i wear my watches on my right and it doesn't feel odd at all since I've been used to it.. I'm sure if you try it for a week, you'd get use to it as well.

I feel your pain

I have a kinda similar problem, my wrist got messed up from trying to rock a rose gold and now if I wear anything too heavy, its just painful

You shouldn't have to endure pain for wearing a watch. You need something lighter or wear the strap looser.

so far my solution was to tape a thick patch of leather under the watch. it acts as a cushion and the watch doesnt slide around as much. Its held with 3M removable tape so you can remove it whenever you want.

its quite ugly, but you can't see it when you're wearing it.

If you want me to send you a piece to try, just PM me

Sell it off, get one which you are comfortable with. There are many models you can choose from.

Thanks everyone for your input - I really appreciate it! As much as I love this watch, I hesitate to compromise on what will be my go-to daily beater. To address a few recommendations specifically:
- I used to wear watches on my right wrist, but as my work has put me more and more in front of a computer, I strongly dislike having my watch on my "mouse hand".
- The leather patch is a good idea, but it's actually the horizontal pressure against the growth plate the hurts, not the vertical pressure. I'd have to put the leather somewhere on the side of the watch

I may have to go with the majority here and flip it for something more comfortable :(

There are plenty of other watches you could own that wouldn't do that. Too bad though..

Not being a smart a$*, but if your wrist hurts that much with ceramic, you probably need something like a Timex Indiglo that is super light and serves the purpose. I have one I put on for waterskiing or other lake activities so I don't lose a Rolex or AP. Give it a shot.

Anyways, best of luck and let us know what you go with. Maybe a 15202 and flip 15400??

Am I the only person who read this as "wife" instead of "wrist"?

Because of my lack of reading comprehension, I voted "Endure the pain", as I mistakenly assumed that all you were getting were dark looks from the missus. Well, now that I know that it's your wrist that's hurting, dude, sell the watch.

Regards,
Adam

It sounds like the Diver just isn't the watch for you, for whatever reason (weight, case size, both). Since your 15400 is fine, you just have to find another watch that works. This may be crazy, but I wonder if they'd let you wear it with the plastic on a few hours in the store before you buy another watch to see if you can wear it or if it causes pain.

It's better to be a smart a$* than a dumb a$*!!

It's actually not the weight, but rather the case size/shape that is causing me issues. Please excuse my non-medical attempt at describing it: the upper crown guard sits up against the growth plate of my ulna (the outer bone that sorta sticks out a bit at the wrist) and rubs up and down against it. I think the angle of the crown guard is hitting the bone at just the right angle to cause irritation.

Adam - methinks "wife" would have been a safe assumption

Got it...I think

I still vote 15202 in order to stay in AP family and shouldn't irritate the ulna

15202 then but I'd be tempted to release the 15400 in that case....might find yourself with a nice chunk of change leftover.

Or get the pp 5167a! It's a feather on the wrist and joy to wear.

I would flip it without hesitation. I'm not at all sentimental when it comes to watches unless they are gifts. When I get tired of a watch I flip it. In your case, no watch is worth physical pain, your health is número uno. I'm sure you will find another beautiful watch that will fit right, you just might need some patience and many trips to ADs, which is not so bad is it?!

Thanks so much for your advice and for casting your votes - the overwhelming response is to flip it. That was my gut instinct, but I just needed your guys' validation.
Any recommendations for what I should be asking for this? It's really hard to get a sense for the market value given I can't find any historical sales prices. I've had two members reach out to me with offers, but it's hard to assess how fair they are with nothing to compare against.

Get rid of it. Unfortunately the watch just isn't working for you. You're wrist should be a higher priority. Plus wearing a watch like that should have a sense of prestige associated with it. Instead it's a source of pain for you. So go watch searching and flip it for something that you will love and be comfortable on you.

I promise at the end of the day you'll know you made the right decision.

GoodLucK!

Sell it and get a GOLD ROLEX! (I don't really think OP should do this, just saving DreambreaX the trouble of typing it in! )
