Just found these, anyone on here had one fitted to their Rolex.


What would a RSC do if you sent your watch in for a routine service with one fitted, would they remove it and charge you for fitting the original part? What about a watch still under warranty as mine is, would it invalidate the warranty?

Just wondering, I quite like the look of them. Seems a shame to have such a beautiful movement that you never see.

There are numerous threads on here about them already. Rsc could void warranty to refuse to work on your watch.

I like them, but most think the movement appears too ordinary / not decorated enough to display... It's a personal decision. However, I would wait until your warranty expires and you can always put the original back on before service (every 5-7 years), which only takes a few minutes at an AD.

Sure... that picture is one of mine and you will find it, along with a complete review of Thomas Preik's case backs in our Reference Library.

Rolex will not work on watches with an aftermarket part, so, no; they will not remove it and charge you for fitting the original part unless you "authorize" them to do so. They will return the watch.

The issue is simple though, just put the original back on the watch before you send it in.

Good comment "Tools" above. I think you are spot on. Dont send the watch in with an aftermarket part on it.

I put one on my wife's 14060. It looks ok. I picked it up here in the FS section at a good price.

I might think about it if it were and actual Rolex part but for me I want nothing but all Rolex parts and who is going to see the back anyway

Only a problem if the watch is in warranty (most aren't in my case) or if you plan on using RSC (there are other great repair places/people out there which charge half the price of RSC). I don't have one but can't see it would be an issue in my case.

I do like the look of sapphire backs on watches but only if the movement looks good and is worth seeing...as for Rolex, not much to see!!!

I agree Rolex movements are nice and robust but are not purdy enough to put an aftermarket back on. I love the see through back on my DSOTM. The 9300 sure looks great but then again I would not dive in it. I want to keep the submariners water tightness the way it is.

Here is the same watch with an earlier Preik back. The new generation backs use a standard Rolex caseback tool..

I like the looks of the movement, but am on the fence as to putting one on. Price is fair, but just not sure about an aftermarket part, even a very high quality one.

I've seen a couple folks say this but I have to respectfully disagree. I think the rolex movements are absolutely gorgeous and don't necessary need to be highly decorated to be displayed. Nevertheless, I understand what you mean. I also get wanting to see it more often too though.

Rolex movements are not very special. Plus I don't see the point on any automatic as the rotor is in the way half the time. Now other watches like the omega SMP it's very cool.
I for one would never pay extra for a clear back.

This is why I would never consider it...i know...' You just put the original back on'...nah...I try not to second guess the Rolex designers.

Thank you all for your input and I personally do quite the look of them but think I'll wait at least until my watch is out of warranty before buying one. Then I think I would get myself tooled up to fit it myself and remove it for services.
