Some Advise and Opinions Needed

Hello All,

I wanted to hear some opinions and get some advice on the following. I've primarily switched my collection to all vintage. I currently have a red sub, explorer 1655, sub 5513 and a recently acquired 1675. In addition to this, i have a modern panerai 512 and a sub 16610 v serial. As of late, I've stubbled on a beautiful 1680 in excellent condition, with mint original dial. Now the question is would you sell the sub 16610 to make room for the 1680? I wouldn't want to keep both as i'd end up with too many subs for my liking. I'd like to hear what some of you have to say. Thanks in advance.

If you didn't already have the 1680 red I'd say go for it, but being it's your only gold surround sub, I'd keep it over a 1680. You've already got the red, I think it'd e smarter to have 2 subs that are quite a bit different, than one with a red submariner text and one with white

Tough call. Out of your set which is the one you wear as a daily driver? Which is the "beater"?

It's not the red 1680 that I was referring to, it's the white. I already own the red.

I rotate my watches. Each watch gets a week on the wrist and than is rotated out. So each watch is worn equally.

Get a 1680 with the white-lettered dial, you won't regret it in years to come.

I would get something more rare like a gilt sub rather than a white 1680 personally.

Tough call. I'd probably not do it. But considering your current lineup, I'd sacrifice the 16610 towards a 1665.

Personally I always like a modern Rolex in my collection even though I love the vintage models a lot.No stress wearing the modern sub doing just about anything. When it's service time no worries comes back looking new and value is not effected by service parts and is unlikely to be in our lifetime highly collectable and rare as they are produced in high numbers over a long period. Great everyday watch IMHO.

Post pics and we can better help you decide. There's so much variability to how these babies age and that beautiful patina.

it's a nice piece but the overlap between a white and a red would be to big for me.... many other vintage references out there !

If I had a Red 1680, I never wear the white 1680, keep the 16610, it'll be vintage before you know it

Very nice! We won't mind if you also sneak in the 1655 and 1675.

keep the 16610. I have a red 1680 and a 16610LV as part of my sub rotation. it's the perfect balance. if you're buying the 1680 white as a long term investment, then that's different.

Sometimes a red 1680 and white 1680 can look very different (other than the bit of red) because of the differences in dial/hands patina, and even the bezel insert (fade versus no fade, etc ...) . But based on the photos, the patina is quite similar between your current 1680 and the one you're considering. I personally wouldn't do it. And I agree with the above comments about keeping a modern Sub in your collection. That's the one I usually take on vacation when I know I'm going in the water. Good luck either way!
