I agree with you, I think you were expecting something more after dropping $6k on a simple hour/minute/sec stainless steel watch...

But, the reality is they have a great marketing team and you feel ripped off.
Well, you should, kinda.

In the 1960's the 5513 was around $200, and it really hasn't changed much to the 14060 since then, some white gold hour markers, gloss dial, and a sapphire crystal, about it.
Same case, essentially same movement, similar hollow mid link bracelet, same
triple lock crown etc.

A new car like a corvair was around $2300 back in 1960, that means a new base car nowadays should run $67,000 if they had rolex inflation prices.

I've never had a prob with a $200 mechanical seiko...just saying.


Glad it worked out, and this sounds like an expensive reality check, and though its a Rolex a $6000, its still just a watch.

Watches are machines that require service and can break. Its what the company does in times of service that forms my opinon of the brand.

Totally agree. I was going to say the same thing about my first AP.

Had a rolex serviced with too tight a mainspring (I believe, but can't remember for sure). Ran fast and didn't have much power reserve. Got that fixed right up.

Mechanical things are art, engineering in one. It happens.

Knarr Jewelers in Oakville. Top shelf service. Bought both my Sub Date and Day Date from them and it was first class all the way!

Thanks for sharing your experience at Knarr I live close to them but have never used them

The issue is that Rolex has marketed their watches by claiming a quality so high that you will pass it on as an heirloom. They do that to justify their inflated prices.
The truth is like all mechanical watches they break.

It's a very nice watch but like all luxury goods the price is intended to create a barrier to ownership so that not everyone can own one.

It's similar to the marketing of luxury purses. The price is not dictated by the cost of production.

I humbly disagree.

Rolex does not market as an heirloom. Patek does. They will repair any watch they've ever made. Rolex will only do so up until 25 it's after production has ended.

Rolex sells aspiration. The history is sold by forums.

The truth as I see it is that they sell 1,000,000 watches each year. A failure rate of .5% is still a lot of watches.

But they will warrant it and all will be well.

Stuff breaks.

Also, does it cost $7000 to make a Submariner? No. I don't know what it costs. But if you add r&d, marketing (they spent $60 mil last year) and all non production costs you get their price. Rolex is a non profit, crazy as that seems.

Rolex will service any watch they have parts for. RSC just gave me a quote for my 50yr-old Air King.

They're only -required- to service for 25. See below.

But yes - if they have the parts, they will do it. If they don't, they won't. Patek, AP and others will make them.
