What is most desirable GMT

I'm in the market for one. What's the most ideal to own as a daily wearer with some historic and collectible value - 4 or 5 digit models? Coke or Pepsi? Sapphire or acrylic glass? With or without lug holes ? And jubilee or oyster bracelet? What are the things to look out for when buying pre loved or vintage models? Thanks

I like Pepsi bezel with oyster bracelet, sapphire crystal with lug holes

The most desirable GMT is either a reference 6542 with the bakelite bezel (first ref of GMT ever produced), or early 1675's with gilt chapter ring dial's and pointed crown guards.

What is perceived as 'desirable' is totally subjective! Rarest/most valuable have already been suggested.

My hesitation with a 4 digit model circa 70s GMT is that like a late model car it may be on the difficult side to maintain, regulate and acquire with all original parts. So I may just settle for a 2007 year model.

Which is the OP's exact question here: "most desirable GMT" or "most ideal to own as a daily wearer?" Anything from a 6542 to the upcoming WG Pepsi could be the former. While the latter could be satisfied by a 16700 or just SS current production.

I like the 16700 myself. The 6542 is great historically speaking but if I had one in original condition with Bakelite, it'd sit in a glass case, with lights shining on it, and wonderful string music playing softly in the background

Having owned most of the GMT line I still fall back to the 1675 PCG Chapter ring gilt dialed ones with nice cases. 6542's always seem smaller without the crown guards. After that the 16760 is a fine everyday watch. I am never disappointed in them, just my preference changes time to time. Springer has a love affair with GMT's as well so he may chime in.

For me, it is the first generation quick-set GMT 16750 with the acrylic crystal and matte dial. The reason I prefer this over its replacement the 16700 GMT is twofold. One, the acrylic crystal is less expensive to replace if it breaks (although I have never cracked one) and two, I prefer the dial appearance of the 16750 with the plain markers on the black matte dial.

My next two, in no particular order, would be the GMT II 16760 or the GMT 16700.

(The GMT 1675 would also be a nice daily wear Rolex, since you wouldn't have to worry about setting the date every time you broke it out.)

There aren't any issues finding parts for the GMT 1675. They are easy to repair and the parts are readily available from Rolex or many watchmakers/vendors. Additionally, I've never had a problem regulating or maintaining a GMT 1675.

I'm a 6542 fan, but hardly wear them due to the poor wearability of the original bakelite bezels.

I agree with you. When I picked up my first Rolex GMT2, I specifically bought the M Serial 16710 Coke with the 3186 movt. I also have two versions of the GMT-C, a tt and the BLNR. Then I acquired the ExpII 42mm Polar that complements the other GMT in my meager collection:

I personally love all of them but the radial dial 1675 holds a special place in my heart
