Chances are this watch was bought by someone originally who knew quite well it was fake, like on the street while on a trip to China. I know several people who have bought Fauxlexes in this manner and they knew exactly what they were buying - it was even disclosed by the street vendor. One guy said they told him they had fakes of various quality depending on how much he wanted to spend. Some of these undoubtedly end up on Ebay and the like where the crime is perpetrated yet again.

Do yourself a favor and don't rock it.
You may fool some of your friends, but believe me when I say that there are plenty of people out there who can spot a fake from across the room and most will not take kindly to it. No one's going to yank it off your wrist and call the cops, but you will have made a very bad impression on someone who just might be in a position help you in some way. Telling the knowledgeable world that you're as phony as your watch isn't a good way to get started in life, provided you have ambitions to rise above hanging out at the corner liquor store. Here's some help before you make a fool of yourself. There are a lot of companies out there who make watches that look a lot like the very expensive ones and they are not counterfeit, as they carry their own names and there are just enough differences to distinguish them, so as not to break any trademark laws. Some of those aren't very good, but actually there are some very good watch companies that make what we around here call homage watches. Look at the homages on this page that are extremely well made with Swiss ETA movements. Bill Yao's watches are highly sought after and are quite reasonable. http://www.mkiiwatches.com/ Do you really like chronographs? Why not spend a couple of hundred and buy a good quality quartz model from someone like Seiko. Seiko is one of the best watch houses in the world. That confuses a lot of people because they sell watches at the low end of the price range and also at the high end. I have a friend who bought an inexpensive Seiko 5 automatic back in the Seventies and who has had it serviced many times and today, it looks as good as it did when it was bought and keeps time just as well as it ever did. Did you know that you can today buy a Seiko 5 automatic for around fifty dollars up to a couple of hundred dollars? I have one and I like it a lot. I paid $69.99 and they're often for sale for less. Start learning about watches and start shopping around the internet. You'd be surprised how many good quality, good looking watches are out there for not a lot of money. Look at this Seiko quartz chronograph for less than a hundred dollars that is actually a chronograph and not some piece of junk that looks like one. http://www.amazon.com/SEIKO-Quartz-C...aph+watch+gold Amazon is literally swimming in them. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ograph%20watch

With a little grit and determination you'll be able to save enough to buy the real thing one day. I've read many stories about people waiting years to buy their dream watches, myself included, so you're definitely not alone. Hope to see you back with pictures of the watch you plan to give to your kids.

Watches need to be cleaned and oiled periodically, which is called servicing.
It can be expensive, but it does help to protect one's investment, especially for expensive watches and especially mechanicals. Inexpensive watches that have quartz movements don't require as much care, mainly because the movements are inexpensive enough that they can be replaced more cheaply than they can be repaired and they don't break very often, anyway. Some higher-end quartz movements can benefit from periodic servicing, but most people abandon quartz once the watch prices get above a grand.
