Finally got around to insuring my Sub..
After almost a year of saying I was going to insure my sub with Jewelers Mutual I finally did get around to getting an appraisal & filled out my application online. I can now rest & not worry.

Larry, when I read the title to your post I thought that I remembered that we talked about this a year ago, happy that you finally got it done. It does give you some peace of mind!

My collection is insured through Jewelers Mutual. $2690 for the year but worth the peace of mind. You can never know what might happen.

Do they usually give you a hard time if you make a claim?

My homeowner's company insures my collection for just under 1% per year with a $1000 deductible. I never called Jewelers Mutual, but their online quote seemed about 2.5x higher.
Are their actual rates in line with their online quotes? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Mine is insured for 170k for $2690 a year so I guess it's nearly 1.5% per year. But I have a feeling the percentage is higher because of the larger amount of risk they're taking.
They also cover EVERYTHING. Lose it at the beach, covered. Lose it because you shipped it somewhere and the FedEx driver stole it, covered. So it comes with a lot more assurances I think than covering it on your house policy, AND they know what they're doing since it's all they specialize in. Quote:

I insured my watch for $6500 and it is costing $127 per year. Not bad for piece of mind. Oh & it was actually $3 cheaper than the online quote.

The homeowners vs. JM debate has been done to death, it's a personal decision and the choices that mater to you are what will sway you one way or the other neither way is perfect but there are advantages and disadvantages for both.

All insurance will give you are "hard time". You just have to fill out all the paperwork they request.
I insure my wife's jewelry (any my watches). My wife lost 1 earring. I filled out all the paperwork they requested, legal docs, signed stuff and they bought me a matching earring (still in production). JM doesn't give you a check, they work with the jeweler directly. I never handled any money. My jeweler just called me when they got the earring in and was paid by JM.
