Incoming Zenith

I have wanted this watch for a very long time. There are not that many making their way to UK Ads. The two ADs I know have yet to see one. I don't know why this is, maybe they are not making too many of them. In many ways it is an incredible watch. A magnificent development of the El Primero the 4046. They have managed to add a magnificent uni- level concentric Grande Date, in itself a superb addition. They have also added a very practical and readable world time function. As if that wasn't enough already they have added an alarm with it's own separate hand wound barrel and an actual gong, rather than a pin which rattles against the case back. Yes it does end up with a dial that is a little messy, but i think the dial is part of the character of the watch and is telling of all that goes on behind it . I am not so sure, given the limitations of mechanical placement of functions, how they could make the dial much cleaner. What they have done is to make the dial incredibly readable and beautifully finished. They have got the equation of alarm PR against intensity about right. The alarm runs for about 35 seconds. If they had made it any longer, with the given power available, it would have been quieter. if they had tried to make it any louder then the run would have been too short. The nature of the world time with all the place names around the dial i know is not everyone's favorite. But like the difference between digital and analogue readouts it gives a lot of information at a glance. I am often in HK and at the same time need to know what is going on in my UK office and my Bangkok office, and at the same time be aware of time in California where I often have dealings. One quick look will tell me all of this . The perfect travel watch, it gives me all these functions and will wake me up in the morning or prompt me to bring a meeting to a close. But I don't buy watches as tools. I bought it because I like it. I admire greatly the work that has gone into producing it and the level of quality achieved in its execution. IMO one of Zeniths best efforts and I am already certain it will be a keeper and sit comfortably in my watch box next to it's Chronomaster cousin with the 410 El Primero.

Here are some photos. It arrived on a Horrible Brown gator strap, apparently they all do. I can't abide Brown. In anticipation of its arrival I ordered a stunning Nubuck Alligator strap in grey. I put the watch on the new strap straight away.

Don't own one, but I have always thought that was a pretty interesting watch. I like alarm complications and own the JLC NSA.

Huge congratulations Tim, I had the chance to handle one when I was in London earlier this year, while there is a lot happening on that dial it is very readable. I'm undecided between the Doublematic, JLC EWC/A or the IWC world timer.

Absolutely stunning watch. I agree what was mentioned for the money this watch house is incredible value. I just traded off a Zenith Stratos. It was in house, el primero chrono with flyback for under $6700. That to me is a steal, btw that movement didn't have hacking.
