Looking at the Panerai 299 -- welcome feedback, comment, review. Thanks, Scott

I had to Google the 299 -- it's not a model that readily comes to mind. So I see it's a Panerai with a bracelet and date magnification. Frankly, I'd get a Rolex if those characteristics are a big part of the appeal. I recommend the following as first PAMs: 000, 005, 111,112.

Googled it, too! Go Submariner, GMT II, IWC or JLC with nice metal strap or even Breitling Navitimer or Superocean. Good luck.

for me, panerai means, among a few other things, straps, so, i wouldn't pay the premium for the metal bracelet. but, i also think the best way to buy a keeper is to buy what you like, so, if the 299 checks all of your boxes, go for it. if bought well, it shouldn't be too much of a risk (though it will probably be harder to flip than more popular models).

Scott, I agree with what the others say. Rolex is the model for a bracelet. It looks like a lot of people enjoy Panerai's because they are able to easily change the straps to all sorts of different material. I would recommend visiting a Panerai Boutique and explore the different models.

As a first, best to stick with a 44mm Luminor on a strap

^ Agree. You'll probably flip your first one anyway if you're like me.
Why do you like the 299? |

As my first Panerai I would probably look into something on a strap. That will also save you some money.

bracelet, 7750 & cyclops ...all not really traits associated with core Panerai, me thinks...
Leather, handwound and a dome crystal... now we're cooking

299 doesn't come to mind as a classic or first PAM. I think we are all in agreement that you should probably look it the 000,005, 111, and 112. If you want to go newer possibly the 312, 320, or 510

I Like Metal Braclets -- What Can I Say
I have several high-end watches -- all with metal bracelets. For example, Omega PO and Breitling SuperOcean Heritage. Leather bands just don't do it for me. If I ever change my mind regarding the metal bracelet, I can easily switch to leather. That said, thanks for the feedback. Cheers

I am not a fan of the contemporary models with the the cyclops date window. My first Pam was a 240 and then got me a Pam 86, but HATED the date window. I hated the way it looked on the crystal and how it magnified the date, so I sold them and I went to the historical models where I got me a 111 and now i just own my 005. I am not a big fan of the new bracelet, or any bracelets on a Pam...Pam's belong on a strap, but that is just my opinion. in the end, it s your money and likings on what you want...

Yes try Pam 111 or a 112 for your first pam.
