Almost got scammed myself the other day, story below.

It went down like this.

Sold one of my presidents on eBay, it was bought by a buyer with one feedback (bought a small item) feedback on that was my first red flag, problem with shipping worked out amically. ( probably refunded, $5 item testing the item did not arrive scam and PayPal refund process although I have no proof of this). Member for ten days only.

Bought my item with no offer although item had best offers, second red flag, no questions at all.

Pays with PayPal. PayPal send me an email we are investigating the transaction.
20 minutes later it's ok to send, another great bs investigation by PayPal

I write an email and refund PayPal payment saying bank wire only PayPal are investigating, you don't even have a verified account ( this means a bank account linked in Australia which requires id) although does not stop account theft. PayPal take a 20k Aussie payment with only a credit card apparently linked. Crazy if you ask me, it's late.

No response at all it is now the next morning. However, he is no longer a registered user. I dodged a bullet guys. PayPal told me this transaction was ok, perform your evaluation guys be careful. I was prepared to lose 250 dollars in fees and negative feedback, either way, I was not going to send.

Details of scammer below. From PayPal transaction. I have xxxx some details of mine. Watch out for his name address if your selling a watch.

Good that you questioned the transaction. I'm sure many would have just shipped.

I'd never buy, nor sell to anyone with less then 10 feedbacks. And a few had to be major purchases +$250.00 or somerying like that. Unless I spoke with them extensively and trusted them. Good job catching this thief!

I would have made the mistake of sending it after Paypal clearing the transactions. This is a good reminder of staying away from Ebay. If ever I want to sell I will do so only through a watch forum.

All their investigations are load of BS - Either robots or off-shore low cost sub continent workers following set guidelines.

And if you would have shipped... Paypal would not have refunded you 19 cents, lets alone $19,000. This is why I do not use Paypal.

David- as a seller i believe you can set ebay rules for any potential buyers

For example you can block ppl below a certain feedback from dealing with you

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/b...uirements.html

(Apologies if you already do this,)

Glad you managed to avoid getting scammed

Smart dealing David.

FWIW: If you would have sent the watch and the payment turned out to be bunk, paypal would/should reimburse you for any loss. Unless paypal changed their rules..... I had the exact same thing happen with a MacBook I sold on eBay years ago, (turned out be with a stolen credit card), Paypal comped my loss. Paypal's own rules stated they (rightfully) assumed responsibility for fraudulent transactions after they sent the 'go ahead and ship your item' email to you. Again, not sure if that's changed- but I saw $2200.00 refunded to my account direct from paypal.

ebay/Paypal constantly changes their own rules which benefits scammers and buyers. The sellers are the ones on the short end of the stick. I had a ebay buyer who never confirmed receipt, thus I wouldn't have gotten paid. All they did was confirm delivery with Fedex/UPS tracking number.

Imagine what would happen if post delivery tracking number and the buyer files a bogus claim. I would have been SOOL.

There was another seller on the forum that sold a watch on eBay. When the buyer received he questioned the authenticity of the Rolex. Kept the original and sent back a very very good replica in its place. That seller had the fight of his life with eBay/paypal and was still not successful. Point is, eBay and PayPal care only about the buyer. They will find more suckers to sell, but need buyers to make $ off of sellers.
Nice work going with the gut!!
