First watch: A Roy Rogers. It had a tooled leather band with silver plated buckle and keeper and a cool picture of Roy and Trigger on the dial. Wish I still had it.
First good watch: To me at least, a 10K gold Elgin from my grandfather as a high school graduation gift. I still have the watch head but not the bracelet. First Rolex: A TT Date bought new in 1990. I flipped this one several years ago.

1. "Sorry Charlie" Charlie The Tuna character watch, manual wind. It's around here somewhere, still on its groovy period correct wide leather strap.
2. 1940's Gruen Curvex, 14k gold with hooded faceted lugs. Was given to me in 1985 with cash for a Haverhills Aviator (analog AND digital!) watch I ordered out of a magazine. Was a catalyst for collecting vintage watches. 3. and it still hurts...in 1989 I bought a used Sea Dweller for $850 from Ashland's list. Sold it 3 years later at a $400 profit (how could I resist?) Yes, it was a 1665 Great White (but not a rail dial). |
