I've had outstanding service from most independents. Chains usually aren't as good and watches of Switzerland disappointed me with a patronising and judgmental view on me until I revealed a green sub whilst buying a watch for my dad.

It's like you have to walk in with a silk scarf on and a top hat to be taken seriously.

It doesn't help that I'm young and for most of the summer wearing shorts and a t shirt

That would be my last trip to that store! Hopefully it will work out for you and you can enjoy that beauty for a lifetime! Good luck.

I agree with you that customer service is generally a lot better in the US than in Europe. Always been a pleasurable experience for me shopping on the other side of the Ocean. No idea why that is.
From an AD you may expect more customer friendly behaviour than what you experienced. Once your watch is returned ignore them in the future.

At the beginning of august I bought my first new Rolex from an AD. I went in for a GMT and came out with a beautiful Datejust ii with a silver face. I bought it to get married in. When I went on my honeymoon I noticed the time was wrong and after a couple of experiments I determined it was gaining 25 seconds a day. I decided to take it to the RSC on 5th avenue and the gent said it was over banking/rebanking. He said that due to the RSC being closed at weekends he would be unable to open the watch since he actually worked for Wempe (their boutique is in the Rolex building) and it would void my warranty so I should go to the AD in the UK. I hasten to add that they were very busy and he took a while to see me, they treated me wonderfully giving me champagne and chocolates while I waited .

I took it back to Goldsmiths who treated me terribly, I called them the day before and said that the 30 day exchange period would be over but considering it was only by 1 day they wouldn't hold me to it. I got there and they couldn't be less interested, refused to exchange it, refused to listen to any complaint and just spouted company policy at me. I felt completely undervalued despite being £7k out of pocket. Now I won't have my watch for 6 weeks and I haven't even owned it for that long.

No point to this, just needed a rant and to point out the stark difference between Service here in the UK and US.
That sucks but for future reference never go back to an AD for that sort of problem.(i used to work for goldsmiths)respectfully they arent watch makers they are shop assistants.

...take it to rsc in london.
I took my dssd there recently loosing lots of seconds a day....they regulated it and had it back on my wrist within 20 mins.......beter than 6 x weeks...and gave me a travel pouch to boot

The manager called me and spouted the same stuff to me. He claims to have spoken to Rolex and they have promised to turn it round in 10 days. Let's just see if he's spinning me a line.

My hulk ran fast around 25sec a day atbthe beginning, but I just let it run in a few weeks then reset. Now it runs under COSC standard.

I don't really see what you're wingeing about.

In the US, the RSC was closed. The Wempe guy did not want to open your watch, since he wasn't a Rolex authorized service person, and if he did, it would have voided your warranty claim.

In the UK, you were over the return period. They had no obligation to take your return. If you'd gotten them to say it was ok over the phone, then you should have gotten the person's name that you spoke to.

Presumably, Rolex is now regulating/repairing your watch under warranty.

What's the problem?

I have the same problem with my DJII where it is gaining about 30 seconds per day.

Problem is I bought my watch in Taipei and I may be heading back next month so dont want to send my watch to Toronto to be serviced.

It is a pain but at least I know it can be adjusted after a few days by myself.

Hi mate, the watch does look really good.

I guess when it comes to AD, its either a hit or miss in anywhere of the world, Ive been bumped into some really shitty one even though they are considered the biggest watch retail chain here and some local independent store here does deliver one of the best sales services I have had....

Good luck next time!

I was going to say the same. I personally avoid Goldsmiths and most other ADs in London, instead i perfer to go out of London as i find i get treated better.

Bottom line is its your watch is back with Rolex so hopefully you'll get it back soon and all will be good!

Like I've said many times before, Rolex corporate really needs to improve their Ads. Either by sending secret buyers to check on service and courtesy, OR survey everyone who buys from an AD, with the survey going straight to HQs. The wildly inconsistent AD service will eventually harm the reputation of the brand.

No magnets or anything, the chap in New York said that the likely cause was either a too strong main spring or an over lubricated part (can't remember what he called it).
