Icon17 Seiko watch movement

I practised on a Seiko 7009A movement today, quite different from swiss movements and assembly was rather difficult.

Good for you, Bas. I'll mod the dials, hands, etc but don't have the knowhow to mess the fiddley bits on the movement.

Good for you Bas. I don't have the patience for watchmaking! I tried to take an iPhone apart once, no bueno on that. Too many small screws

good work bas.

care to elaborate on the difficulty opposed to a swiss movement? why do you say that and what are your guesses as to why this seiko was designed the way it was?

Well it is not necessarily more difficult than a swiss movement, it is just different in terms of design.
It was a difficult movement for me to work on because I was doing it at home so there was no teacher there to help me.
I haven't worked on automatic movements in school yet so this mechanism was completely new to me and I also haven't worked on day/date movements in school (the only movement with a date feature I worked on was the Russian movement from last week) so this was also fairly new to me.

Good job! I gave up after pulling the hands off a leaky Seiko. I totally admire your persistence!
