Greetings! First Rolex and its a Sub
Hello everyone,
I recently joined the Rolex forums to learn, listen, and admire all the fine timepieces out there. A few days ago, I took the plunge and bought my very first Rolex, a 16610 K-serial with box and papers. I have been a big watch-lover all of my life, and recently took my first steps into "luxury watch ownership" by buying a new Brietling SuperOcean Cronomat II while on my honeymoon in the Bahamas. I followed up by then purchasing a pre-owned Omega Seamaster CoAxial (2222.80), the last of the wave-faced models. As much as I love those, my focus has always been on finding a Submariner, and the "right" Submariner. I likened it to finding a "life partner", seeing this watch as my go-to daily wear watch. Beyond that, I took great enjoyment from the extras- the style of the packaging, the green hang tag that carries the watch's serial number, the anchor in it's little bag. For me, all of it added to the specialness of the experience and a greater appreciation for the brand. I look forward to continuing my learning on this forum, and hope I can add to to knowledge base here. I'm sure this is not my last Rolex (the Daytona comes to mind, as I want to begin my research on those as I did for the Sub) so the Rolex Forums will be my new home on the web. Thank you everyone!
Beyond loving the looks and the history, I felt a Submariner was a wise choice, as they have a strong following and seem to hold their value/ appreciate over time. What I find interesting is that these watches seem to be more than just a timepiece; people value them beyond their function. Some see them as personal statement, others appreciate their technical precision, while others love the history. Its nice to talk to people of like minds that have a passion for such things. |
