To install or not to install...

Found this aftermarket ceramic insert for my 11613 since my bezel is scratched. changes the look a bit but nice May keep and install for a change of pace What does TRF think?

Pic has insert just laying on top and not yet installed

Have you checked with the RSC for an exchange/purchase?

That would be my preferred way..

Its a shame for such a nice watch not to have a genuine insert. Have you noticed that the peal is off center? Dont do it man.

No, the idea was to get the look of a newer 116613 on my older 11613. It's not a fake, it's just an aftermarket bezel. I know I can replace my aluminum bezel, but I wanted to see how this looked since Rolex doesn't make one of these for the older series Subs. To me it's a simple thing to change out if I want to install it or go back to the original. It's just a different look, but the newer watches with the ceramic bezels are a different look as well.

I don't mind something aftermarket if it serves a purpose and isn't trying to be something it's not......such as a NATO strap or a RubberB. No mistaking either of those for an authentic Rolex bracelet. You are trying to make a 16613 look like its evolved sibling (the 116613) by installing a fake ceramic insert. I just don't think you will gain much support for doing something like this on this forum.

If you want a 116613, save your money and trade-up. Don't bastardize that poor 16613 to do it.

Why don't people get all bent out of shape over aftermarket straps and bracelets. I don't get the difference of the issue. Wear what ever bezel insert you want.

That about sums up why I don't like it. Ultimately?? It's his dang watch and he's welcome to do whatever he pleases. To me it just seems like more of the poser mentality.

It's your watch... Do what makes you happy as that's all that matters. I'm more interested in seeing if and how it fits.

It cheapens the watch. If you're ok with that, go ahead.

Very interesting responses. I knew the vast majority would say stay OEM... and typically I'm in that camp as well. But honestly I don't mind trying new things on a watch as long as it doesn't permanently modify it. So trying different bracelets or straps or, on GMTs, different bezels, is all good. I really don't see any difference with the Sub since it's easy to change out the bezel and doesn't permanently modify the watch, but thanks to TRF I have now been shown THE WAY!

Really, I was curious to know if anyone thought it actually looked good whether they liked the idea or not. Seems like that's a bit too deep of a question for TRF on a Saturday! : )

TKerr... I think you're right. A ceramic bluesy probably will be in my future one day although I prefer the shape and thickness of the 16613.

Thanks, TRF... From "the cheap poser"

Oem

I like my watches and my vintage Corvettes the same way, with the parts they were born with.
Just my opinion, if you like it do it.
Cheers

I wouldnt but no one is stopping you from trying it out.

I think the point about straps is a little different...it is "acceptable" practice to change watch bands for various reasons.

However replacing a component such as the bezel with a non OEM part does cheapen the watch.

I'm sorry if I came across as brash or if I offended you. Ultimately, it is your watch and you are happy with the look.......go for it. I guess where it upsets me is when someone tries to swindle some unsuspecting Newbie by passing something off as authentic and original. These watches are rather expensive, and there are opportunists trying to take advantage of people all the time. Obviously, that is not your intent. Enjoy your watch

The tribe has certainly spoken. I'm sending this back for two reasons:
1) The color looks more like the white sub smurf color and doesn't complement my 11613 well
2) The pearl is off center
I'll find an OEM replacement bezel, but I thought this would have been a nice alternative had it been the right color and quality, but NOT! Was just trying to change it up a bit.

Thanks for setting me on the straight and narrow, TRF!

The original aluminum insert has a darker shade of blue that is a better match to the dial. No reason to use this one.

edit: glad you already decided.
