Had I been the first to respond to this thread I would have quoted odds at 80% saying your first watch should be the GMT, given its versatility. It is also likely to hold its value better assuming you intended to buy both new. Like some if it was 10K of my money I would buy a classic used Pepsi GMT and add a classic used 36mm DJ. You will get lots of good ideas on this forum, no rush to make a decision plenty of DJII and BLNR new around, tend to agree the DJ not DJII is the current classic look.

i love the dj2 with slate dial and plan on making it my next watch but i already own 2 sport rolexes. so if this is going to be your only watch then i would go with the gmt

Welcome and there is no wrong answer here with these two models. Go with the one that YOU think looks the best on your wrist. If it were me, the GMT would be my choice.

That is a tough choice. If only one could be chosen, I would go with the TT DJ II with the slate green roman dial. The DJ II is more versatile in my opinion and if you wear a suit, it goes very nicely with that. Not to take anything away from the BLNR (I own one along with the TT DJ II mentioned above), but it is more of a sportier watch. It can be worn with suits (wearing the BLNR as I type this), but the DJ II just looks better with formal wear and can be worn casually with jeans and a t-shirt.

Another thing to consider is your lifestyle. If it involves a lot of travel and less formal attire for work, then perhaps the BLNR is a better choice for you. You can do no wrong with either choice and each is a supreme upgrade from a Timex.

I went to AD today. Bought a new SS GMT. I tried on the new DD and I really think its lost all its previous generations elegance. For me it was an instant decision. GMT.

While both can be dressed up or down, The BLNR is the more versatile. But I'd be more inclined towards the DJII if I was in a suit five days a week.

I'd go with the BLNR - even if I was set on a two tone anything I'd get the 116713. Gorgeous piece.

I was thinking DJII or GMT IIc black and gold. So I got a president on a strap and a GMT 16710. Best of both worlds -- a bit better for insurance too since you two near 5k items versus one ~10k which you have to declare and insure separately at higher cost (at least when I ran the numbers).

I made the same decision a while back.

Honestly the gmt blnr won out easily. Wear them and you will see. The ad sales guy was even saying they had best before I came in to see the blnr or if I was to choose it over the djii.

Gmt can work with everything. The pcl work great. And strap options help. Wait till tomorrow and I'll post some strap options up there.

If you ask this type of question on this forum, you almost always are going to get an overwhelming response for the sports model. No surprise, they're functional, versatile, and look like a million bucks in all sorts of different situations.

That said, the watch business is purely subjective and it's all about what YOU like...if the DJII sings to you...well, you know what to do...

If concerned the DJ2 is too dressy, consider the smooth bezel version. Sportier look but still classic and has PCL's to dress it up. More versatile. Bottom line...pick any of them and you'll be thrilled. No mistakes to be made here.
