Daily wear and tear, exposure to elements, chemicals, cleaners, pollutants, cleaning etc over time will remove some of that gold/platinum and eventually there will be nothing left or very little.

And if Rolex does such an amazing job with all this testing.....explain the enamel in the Daytonas and the Explorer 2s. How many of those do you see that have bare metal remaining in the bezels.

I understand what you are saying. I also understand that the coating is thin.

I take pretty good care of my possessions and don't use chemicals, cleaners, or pollutants anywhere near my watches. Cleaning with gentle soap and water will not remove the coating.

Pretty hard to compare an enamel paint to a coating / filling like PVD. If there are so many potential issues, why haven't we seen any here? The ceramic bezel inserts have been around long enough to prove your theory.

I have seen issues and have had spots that had part of the gold missing in a 116718
