WG GMT BLRO - Just couldn't do it

Went with a friend to AD this evening so he could buy a gift for his mom and while there I asked about the new WG GMT BLRO. My AD friend had one in the back and brought it out to show me. I took off my BLNR and slipped on this amazing beauty. What an incredible piece - the muted bezel colors are sublime next to the warm white gold case and bracelet.

When we started talking numbers, however, I just couldn't get my mind around the astronomical price.

As I compared the hot and seductive BLRO to my patient and nervous BLNR, I appreciated both in unique and special ways. For now, though, I'm going to hang on to my BLNR and wait for a great deal on a preowned BLRO down the road.

P.S. For those who will want to know about the cyclops mag on this specific BLRO, I can report that it was true 2.5x - clearly larger than the mag on my BLNR by a mile. The mystery continues!!

I wish this came in SS so it would be a more reasonable price!

Even with such a discount, it's still prohibitively expensive. Makes me wonder how the group would rank this vs. the Smurf vs. a WG Daytona?

Ridiculous proposition at a ridiculous price Rolex are really taking customers for mugs on a white gold GMT Pepsi - absurd if not a fingers up idea not to make this a SS watch for the loyal masses

Why is it ridiculous?

Have you looked at other Rolex precious metal retail prices....the Daytona has a retail price of 1000 less than the newly introduced BLRO

Also compare other companies and their solid gold watch prices.

I find that Rolexes precious metal models are priced very reasonably.

And good for Rolex making it available only in precious metal. I would honestly hate to even think how many thousands of incomings on here we would have to endure if it was in stainless.

The nice part is we can all have different tastes. I don't see the BLRO claiming my cash any time soon, but there is plenty of love out there.

I'd still go for the Smurf. More affordable (pre-loved I mean), and to me more appealing as well than the BLRO. The metal bezel draws me away from the Daytona, so it's not an option for me. That said, I completely understand why people love the BLRO looks. It's a great piece, but I just can't get over the purplish tone of the blue half-bezel :(

Wow, you guys sound terrible. TRF is a place where like minded people can go and discuss their passion for watches. I for one like "incoming" posts whether they are for a $100 watch or a $100,000 watch, it's all about sharing the excitement of a new or new to me timepiece. Sorry but had to say something.

If I didn't own the WG Sub, I would have the BLRO.

I love the matte colors on the bezel after seeing it first hand and think it's a total winner.
Don't think I'd put it above my 116718LN though.

I'm very okay that Rolex decided to make the Pepsi ceramic in white gold. Very smart in my opinion. At the price these are selling one equals three of a ss version so I think they are making their money and owners can count on being a bit more exclusive. Don't know how many times I read in a thread someone say don't get a Sub, they are everywhere. This one isn't.
And I can't afford it by the way.

I agree with statements below as well.

Compared both the WG sub with its beautiful blue against the new WG blue/red at an AD here on vacation in Germany and the blue sub would always win for me. The blue/red is nice but that's all and no wow effect here for me. The blue sub is just stunning and still plays in a different league and I think will always be my all time favorite Rolex timepiece.

For me it is the best new modern Rolex sports watch in a long time and absolutely love it and have from day one. It is funny to me all the comments on the blue though as I remember before buying my WG Sub how many hated the blue color and called it Smurf. Smurf was used in beginning as a way to describe the funny shade of blue now it is a nickname for watch. I always loved it as well and the blue which so many disliked was rather appealing to me. The blue for GMT BLRO is perfect shade for this watch and the blue as used in BLNR would not work well IMHO nor would surf blue of course. The watch is so similar in color to the original 6542 making it the perfect modern day Pepsi! To each his own of course but for me love this one in every way!

Sorry you thought I sounded "terrible"

I did put my a winky face ;-) next my statement in jest about incoming threads. That said, I agree with sharing passion for watches makes TRF great.

However, to me...passion is not expressed via obsession on what discount others have received / might receive on a product in sky-high demand... Again that's to me.

One thing I like about TRF is that we can have different opinions and *joke* about threads like incomings, price increases and "Is it safe to wear my Rolex in the loo in Pakistan..." Or whatever.

I was on the fence until I saw it in person.

Now I can't get it out of my head. The saving has begun.

Our phones/computers would be spammed with cranberry and blueberry. And especially now around holiday times. I wish Rolex only made the GMT in platinum.
