Rolex Pricing Advice

Hi guys,

My first post on this forum, and I'm going to have to ask for some help from you seasoned pros out here.

I've been looking for an affordable, high resale value watch now. Rolex came naturally as a brand to hold it's value, and I zoomed in on the subC series as it provided the best balance to value and aesthetics (IMO).

I'm looking to buy a preowned subC, and I have an offer for 8k SGD (equivalent to 6400 USD) from a local seller. There is some scratch on the clasp and hairlines on the bracelet, but the head itself is perfect (at least according to the seller). It is 116610 LN Submariner Ceramic with warranty stamped somewhere in 2012.

Would anyone advise if I should take up his offer? Take note it's going to be my first Rolex, so my pricing references may not be spot-on. It is, however, not my first time buying watches - I currently own a beautiful Sinn U1 White.

I think that price is more than fair for a decent Submariner Date. I would definitely jump on that - the price seems closer to most models without the date.

Thanks so much for that, I will of course be looking at the watch in person before committing because any deal that seems too good to be true, usually is right?

You could probably get newer preowned black SubC for that kind of money. I've seen one offered more or less at that price and it was stamped mid 2013 (still under warranty until mid 2015).

But don't take my word for it. Go and shop around, there are quite a fair bit examples of preowned black subC.

SGD 9k will get u a brand new subc. So 8k isn't a bad price for a 2nd hand. But if i were u, i will buy it new...

Great choice of first watch, deal sounds OK but there is also appeal of buying new, the joy of buying at a dealer, more years before service etc.

Judging by AD prices in the US on pre owned:
Us $6400 is a good deal for a 2012.
Make sure that the serial number is random, it is a sub c with date, there are no after market components or replacements inside, the serial numbers match the rehaUT ad original hang tag.
it Will be extra icing to find maint. records although you would not expect that on a 2 year old rolex.
some bracelet patina is acceptable...
if 100% of checklist above is met, you have 99% chance it is a great watch and a greater value proposition.
cheers!

yes grey pieces cost around s$9k in Singapore so s$8k for a 2yo sounds reasonable.
btw, when u ask for advice on a predominantly US based site about prices, you have to understand that prices are way more expensive in US. in other words, all the TRF prices are not attractive at all to Singaporeans.

Suggest to buy new. I am sure your AD would have some credit tie ups which you can pay 8K SGD and finance the rest.
