1968 vintage 1803
This is the 1968 vintage (serial 2.581.xxx) model 1803 that my grandfather passed down to me.
Another question, in addition to the link from my other thread, what would the correct box be for this model and year? I have seen some green ones with different codes embossed on the back, as well as some with a buckle. Thanks Tony |

That serial would place it in 1971 I believe.
My father bought a gold DJ in the early seventies, he got a 56 001 box with it. But there are plenty of inconsistencies regarding what box you got with your watch. |

I'm going with 1970. (2500000). 1970 starts at (2900000) I believe.

Welcome, great looking example. Nice heirloom to have received.
I've got one from '71 or '72 (26XXXXX) and the boxes I've seen for them when I've looked around are the brown leather ones with the leather strap and buckle. At any rate that is what I found for mine. I think back in that time frame some wouldn't even bother with the boxes nor would the dealers necessarily give the correct box for the watch. |

Here is the list I found.
http://www.bernardwatch.com/Rolex-Serial-Numbers Interesting that they are different. This list puts it in 1968. Tony |

Does Rolex offer a history service based on the serial number?
It did just come back from a factory service. Tony |

Thanks everyone.
I was originally thinking of replacing the black dial with a gold one, but the black is growing on me. And that is the way it was when my grandfather bought it. Tony |

I agree. My 2.32m GMT is IV 1969.

Good grief, please don't replace that beautiful original dial! If you do, Rolex will keep the original. OTOH you could source a replacement outside the Rolex domain and keep the original stored in a safe place, but I still wouldn't violate that gorgeous thing.

Correction
Correction on post #17: Case back date is "IV68", not "IV69" as previously stated.

Beautiful!
I have original box for my 2.55m serial 1803 but no pictures of the box... When I bought mine the seller said it was from '72, one registry said '68 and mine does not have the hack feature in the movement which should date it before '72 |
