Great find and I love the original box with it. Really nice example!

Thanks all! It truly was an amazing find...and it's a long story but if I had been seconds late to the booth, it would have been gone as another interested buyer showed up with a deposit for the watch while I was examining it (but he had never told the seller he was committed earlier so the seller gave me the option first...).

Can anyone confirm the dial version?

Great purchase looks lovely. I have a 1979 5.9mil mark 1dial, the L in ROLEX directly under the coronet is one way to indentify this. The plexi looks aftermarket, like mine as i think the original would not have had the bevel and been square at the top. But I'm by no means an expert.

Here's a photo of mine for comparison:

Ouch,
That must have ruined his day. He should have gotten a hold put on it some how. Good for you man, that is a nice find.

That is a beautiful Sub. If I found it I wouldn't be able to make the same mistake as the original owner, it would be actively in the rotation and proudly worn often.

Cool, so my dial is actually a Mk 1?? That's "better", right? :)

How about the crystal, is it a replacement since it has the bevels? Thanks again all!

Yes, your dial is a Mk1, and your crystal is definitely a service replacement, which looks like its never been polished at all. The edges are very crisp.

Mine says hi, with a slightly different look:

Thanks for the info. Great to hear it's a Mk1 and good to know about the crystal.

Nice piece on your end! Faded bezel and sans-cyclops, :)

Yes beautiful watch! I actually prefer the white 1680 MK1 to even the red Subs (please don't shoot!)

Congrats!
