Icon19 I only like the Real thing-> Leave it stock and sell the dial

If someone asks if it's real, how does one reply...?

I swapped out the dial.. I brushed the bracelet and lugs.. And I put on a custom bezel.. I love the way it came out! If people don't like it that's not my problem.. I didn't do it for them! It's your watch do whatever you want to it..

Change it! But I'll warn you, once you change you are more prone to changing it to the other gorgeous dials... Ask how I know! :-)

Change away!

I love the way the Daytona looks with this modification. I am working out a deal at this moment for a trade for a WG Daytona with the Black racing dial.

I might have the Dial with all the red hands for sale soon. This was purchased from Wagstar a solid seller here.

Wow! Which one is your favorite?

Do you have a shot of the silver one with black rimmed subdials? I'd love to see what that mod looks like. I love that dial.

^ if I had to pick a favorite, probably the panda with red countdown and WG sub dials, though red sub dials look good too. I'll look for a picture of the silver for you, should have one somewhere. The only thing lacking (IMO) on the black and silver arabics vs the panda and slate are the smaller numbers. I much prefer the bigger lumed numbers.

Although the clear favorite would be meteorite, but not gonna pony up that much $$$$!

Mod away! Lots of pics in the mod watch thread btw. Most of my stuff is modded, so I'm a bit biased. Obviously hit with the dial swapping bug, but also a fan of updating old references with new bracelets. So most of my stuff is mismatched,,, and better! Lol

Agree on the silver markers. For a dial that sporty, I wish the numerals had lume, or even if they had stick lume instead of numerals.

I have had several Daytonas and didn't wear them because they didn't have the date function. Yes, I was a slow learner.

I'd like to see that!

The biggest problem with swapping Daytona dials is proper hand alignment. Of course they are fragile, but misalignment is easy and sticks out like a sore thumb. You can see in my pic above that the bottom subdial is off a tic, and that work was done by one of our resident experts. Just gotta be patient to get it right...

Of course when newbies try swapping they usually scuff up the hands, as I've noted several times after selling a dial/hand combo!!! Simple task... When left to a pro!

Basically you can t really lose on a mod like this and I think it still easier to sell a Racing Dial Daytona than a regular .

to the OP
As far as the watch is moded with OEM parts DO IT!

You already have all you need for swapping. You may swap them back if you will not be satisfied with its look.

Totally agree here - I have the SS Daytona and could purchase the WG version if I wanted it, but simply prefer SS to WG and like the WG dial options better...therefore I now have a SS Panda with red hands!

Is there a risk with this modification, as far as damage to the original Dial or hands, who would be an expert watch craftsman you would recommend?

I was close to trading the watch for a WG with the black Racing Dial, but I was offered $8K for my year old SS Daytona. Somewhat of a deal breaker.

I have decided to go ahead with the swap, please refer a trusted watch craftsman for this work.

A great weekend to all !!

Rik at Time Care in Florida is great as is Vanessa in Los Angeles. In the Bay Area, get in touch with Kyle at O.C. Watch Company, he has a watchmaker that can do it for you.

I had mine swapped by a watchmaker at a Rolex AD who had access to authentic parts and is trained to do proper servicing. Since the dial I brought in was an authentic dial still sealed in the factory Rolex plastic, they had no problem with the swap.

Imagine you can find a bunch of those in the Bay Area. If I remember correctly the Rolex authorized service center in SF will do servicing on modified watches since it is not one of the Rolex owned RSC's, maybe give them a call to see if they will help you out.

If I could put Hodogs white dial in there Id do it in a heartbeat.

Do it if you can get the parts. Not a problem with a qualified watch maker.

What to do

I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a black SS Daytona which I love & wear everyday & a 2-tone champagne dial Daytona. Now I actually don't like the champagne dial anymore & I was thinking about selling it or trading it in on 2-tone black Sub. But this thread made me think that maybe I should get a black dial for the 2-tone. Any opinions? I want to do something in the next few months.

If you look on the accessories for sale section of the forum, you will find some Daytona dials. I believe there is a slate racing dial that you might like with a hand set. There are other also. Good luck.
